Don't know if anyone else has seen this but Euroquatics is coming out with led T5 bulbs. Only 4 colors will be available for the first few months till the others come out. Marinedepot is the only place in the in North America as of now that is going to be selling them, they are taking pre-orders now. The first shipment is suppose to be in soon. I think i may end up trying some.

It's funny. Once you factor in the heaters running all the time in the tank, nobody saves a plug nickel over conventional lighting fixtures.

my house gets heated as is so mine dont run often just has to boost it a couple degrees. i know switching from t5ho to led saved me $10 a month on hydro someone posted about these a while ago i think its just a matter of someone trying them with good results before they really take off.

Even if I switched to led radion G3 pro I would need 5 fixtures lol. Best case scenario I save $100 a month on hydro, which isn't going to happen, and my payback is only 6 years. Assuming the lights last without incident for the full 6 year period..... Yowzahs.

Ok. Devils advocate.

Using me as an example.

12 T5 x $50.00 =600. I'll even say the bulbs are Canadian dollars AND assuming nothing goes wrong with them for 6 years.

I'll buy a 6 ft 12 bulb fixture for say.... 800 bucks.

So I'm into it for 1400. Plus tax, so say 1600. I say plus tax because I need it to last the entire 6 years, so I'm buying new.

I replace my radium bulbs every year for 200 bucks let's call it 250 for fun.

So 250 x 6 =1500.

So I'm square on bulbs and fixtures.

Now. The power thing.

I run 500 w of lights for 8 hours, and end up running 500 w of heaters for another 8 hours because my tank is in the basement.

With LED, I get the feeling I would be running say 300w of LED for 8 hours, and then 500 w of heaters for 20 hours.

Suddenly, it starts to look like I would spend MORE in the long run?!

Just saying.

Sometimes LED makes sense. I refitted all my lights in my house with LED, and we should see some savings.

I just can't make the math work on my TANK

I like that post, only T5 doesn't quite do that much to the temp. When I ran T5, my heaters didn't come on that much less then they do with LEDS. I did not document it though.
