I used a MJ 1200 to get flow threw the TLF 500 reactor when I was running pellets and it was enough , I has to plumb in into my return pump which is a mag 12 . I has issues of trying to get it all to tumble and not clump up . I read everything on how to work with them , they sat in RODI water for 24 hours before they were put into the reactor , I had the output from the reactor going into the skimmer . I had pellets running for 3 months and I dealt with them " in a responsible way " ( like im drinking in driving home ) when i stared seeeing cyano and hair algea , I had my light on a shorter periods of time , water changes , sucked out cyano everyday , ran my skimmer so it was skimming a little wet . Then I eventually took them offline , left everything the way it was still skimming wet and lights cut back 4 hours and 2 weeks later my tank was spotless .. IMO if youve had a tank up a running for awhile then try other methods , who wants a nice mature tank to be infested with these issues , now if your just setting up a tank its a little different . Theres tonnes of tanks out there that dont run pellets and are " prosperous" despite what blob may think these pellets are still fairly new to the hobby and a lot of people have the same opinoin as me about them .
