When algae is annoying I turn of the light for several days, even better to cover aquarium with something to illuminate any light.
No food - nothing, just forget about it.
With fresh water one week enough for any bad case. Salt water: 3 days worked for me (I did not try longer).
The longer the better , depends of how long corals survive without light.
After several days water is clear.

if you have gone 2 years without algae issues something has changed. Find what it is.
Are you sure its gha a sea hare would clear it up short term.

I've used Hydrogen Peroxide on algae. Works good for a small clump here and there. Pumps off, syringe right into the heart of the algae and watch it bubble.

Have also done this for sick zoas and bad hair algae, except i soaked the rock in watered down hydrogen peroxide for 10 mins, rinsed and returned. Yeah it totally just bubbles and melts off.

What ratio of water:hydrogen peroxide did you use? I have a piece of rock I'd like to test this on.

My guess is he's avoiding the question because he either doesn't test for PO4 and NO3 or they're extremely high.

Well I would obviously assume po4 to be high..... IME GHA will not grow rapidly like that without large po4 numbers.
