Tony,

Your sps likely rtnd for various reasons and more could be on their way out.....sorry to say.
It is good to hear that u have ur po4 under control but this is really only a small piece of the puzzle. You need to worry about other things first such as your nitrates, alk, calcium, mag, sg, temp, etc.
At this point going two weeks without testing alk is not acceptable as you can now see why. You need to test more often! Please be aware that ur parameters are not stable and when increasing alk it is going to be important to watch the other params as well because they are all connected.  As to why you seen the alk drop.....could be many reason really.....however you did say that ur sps were starting to come around and when this happens they can consume more. One question, do you see coralline algae growing anywhere in your

Coraline is now on a generous portion of my rock and glass as well. I notice it more on my plastic overflows than the back pane of glass per say but there is significant amount of it considering I had a 60/40 - 70/30 blend of dry and live when I initially started.

Why?

Your seeing the buildup on your overflows because that's where the waters flowing. You will find it appear more on power heads and overflow boxes because a majority of the water is being cycled threw them.

If you pointed a a powrhead along the rocks so the flow hits the rocks you would see the algae start to form along the rock work.

I disagree with you.  I see more coralline grow on my acrylic panel at the back of my tank (it is part of my overflow) than I do anywhere else.  It gets way less flow than other areas as well.  For whatever reason, I find that coralline grows more easily on plastic and acrylic than rock and glass, and in my experience isn't flow related.  But this is just my own personal experience/observation.

To each their own, just speaking for my observations. If I put in a clean power head it's purple within 2-3 weeks time.

I agree, just my experience on my system alone - every system is different.  I don't notice that much coralline on my tunzes, but I used to get a good amount on my koralia 3's.  I am more diligent about cleaning my power heads though than I used to be.

I'll shoot you a PM about the milles.

Sounds great !!!

I found that my mp40 builds up coralline algea like crazy, I have to swap out the wet side every month  and soak it in vinegar.

Looks like this:

slime1dh9.jpg

it is only isolated to my power heads and not on the rock work or any other place in my tank.

Should I clean my power heads manually?

I went through almost a year of dinoflagellates.  Right now they're blooming in my frag tank.  I don't know if that's it (if it starts to get stringy and bubbles).  I got that after the tank was ~8 years old, and after I had been "doing everything right" for over a year.  The hobby is frustrating, there's no getting around that.

I count all of it as part of the maturing process.  Some things win and lose the war.  Sps won't do well until that war is (more or less) over and done for the most part.

Hell I dosed half a jug of alk onto my floor instead of into the tank over the past 2 weeks, and THEN I left the doser running for 5 or 6 hours. You should see the nail biting I'm doing right now. It never ends.

What is in the left corner of the picture that looks like it has it as well.

It isn't a photo of my tank personally Torx, it is a photo I snagged off the interwebz.

But I have it on my powerheads too though! It is a rusty brown kinda color, sludgy to touch, not really hairy or stringy but just unsightly.

I guess I can scrub my powerheads down tonight when I get off work. Its not like I wanted to relax or anything tonight anyways.

it's not dino's, I got that when I started carbon dosing while adding mb7, I stopped the mb7 and now it is subsiding, I think it's too much bacteria.

Ah I think I see the problem.  Try this...drop your salinity to 1.01 overnight and then dump in 50ml of bacter7 then do a full waterchange and leave the lights out for 3 days.  That should fix it lickety split.

Yeah, you got me.  Seriously though, .01gram of powdered bromine in the makeup water clears diatoms virtually overnight.
