Maidens Hair Problem

Hey all, I have been trying to fight some algae in my one tank. I thought it was standard hair algae, so I tried tangs and all the normal stuff. I came to find out today, after some reading that it is actually maidens hair and fish don't eat it. I was wondering if anyone knows what will eat it or the best way to get rid of it ?

Sensitive to high levels of nitrate... If you aren't doing sps, maybe change from a skimmer to a hob filter for a bit....

You're sure it isn't Bryopsis?

If it is in fact Maidens Hair then your right fish won't touch it as it has a toxin in it that fish don't like. Increasing your Nitrates may help get rid of it but could also spark other issues in the tank.
If it is contained to only a few rocks then pull them out and cut it down as close to the rock as possible (buzz cut) and put the rock in a separate tank with some Urchins for a few weeks. The urchins can better grip and tear off the Maidens Hair and whatever they don't get you can putty over and put back in the main tank.

I have already removed what I can from the tank and baked it in the sun. What I have left is corals and frag plugs. That is the part that I don't know how to clean up.

Does peroxide work on this stuff? Do a search in Google for peroxide and algea for reef tanks.

Try taking a syringe with calcium chloride and squirting it carefully onto the maidens hair. It should burn it up but may take a few doses.
