Mechanical filtration

I could not decide if I should add a mechanical filtration to my new setup (125G DT + 50G refugium + 35 G ST).

There are pros and cons about mechanical filtration. I saw awesome tanks on many of you. Wondering if you can comment on this?

1. Would you recommend a mechanical filtration? (other than protein skimmer).
2. If Yes, what kind? (sock, pads, sponges, etc).

I have a sponge in my bubble trap at the water surface just to catch anything going in the return section. I have to wash it it one a week!

I have a sponge prefilter on the mag 18, other than than no mechanical filtration, I find it just becomes a nitrate trap.

I like the socks for their awsome filtration.
I like the sponge for easy maintenance.
I like the ideea of having only the pre-filter on my pump.

Others?

I don't generally use any mechanical filtration unless I have been stirring things up and I want the water cleared up then I put socks on my drains.  I keep the flow baffled enough in the first section of my sump to allow particles to settle and I drain water for changes from the bottom of that section to vacuum accumulation out.  I'm not a fan of filters on the return pump or just before the return section since I like to maintain a good fuge section of my sump to supply food to the tank that you would filter out.  But if you run your fuge on a separate system (I think Poseidon does this?) then that would work too.

Thank you all.

My sump is in basement, with a Mag 18 ret pump. I will have a 50 G refugium tank in basement that will drain into the ST.

I have to think something, then maybe I will post a sketch for review.

I find the sock does work well, I have 4 socks that I interchange between cleanings.
The sock does catche allot pod's which I like to return to my tank.
