Microscopes And Reefing

Yet another thing on my list of 'wants' lately has been a decent microscope to see and get a better understanding of all the processes happening right in front of our eyes, but too small to appreciate unaided.

I can't justify the price for even a cheap 'real' one on kijiji.... but does anyone have one? What are your experiences with it? Can you see anything interesting/of value? Have you tried leaving a slide in the tank for extended periods to see what colonizes?

i too am waiting for available funds habe wanted one for a while.... even a cheapo will do the trick for the most part. you need a very good reference for actual identification but theres a shit ton going on. i also want a stereoscope for looking at other small things or parts of coral

I was trying to decide which one I'd use/appreciate more (micro or stereo) and I determined that I wanted both lol... Although I'm sure I'd get micro first

ya stereoscopes are awesome but who can resist seeing bacteria multipluy. keeps the little ones occupied too

Mr31415 has posted some amazing photos in the photography section of RC of reefing subject under microscope. Here is a single thread, but definitely search out his username on RC and his flickr account for more. Amazing stuff. He has some pretty high end gear.

I've got one, does 40, 400 and 800x, great for identifying stuff. It's amazing how much life is in skimmate.
