So ive read about people doing it, just wondering if anyone on here has or currently are mxing GFO and Carbon in the same reactor?

Shouldn't be done. To run GFO at the proper flow, it would grind the soft carbon away. Some do half carbon, then something to block the carbon and pack it, then add gfo to tumble

They also exhaust at different rates. I also would not mix.

There was a video on BRS TV regarding just that. Even they said better to separate. Then again they want to sell more equip.

You can always run carbon passively in one of those mesh bags. It is not as aggressive at removing things from the water as if you ran it with water flowing through it. But it does work just at a slower rate. Fill the bag to what you need and put it in the sump or wherever you want it.

This may sound stupid, but would it be a bad idea to put the carbon in a filter sock and put it on the main drain? Or would that just cause the filter socks to constantly overflow???

As long as sump is designed to allow the sock to overflow safely. It's ok but keep in mind sock need cleaning every coupe days so would have to deal with carbon as well. I have dropped carbon in a nylon sock inside a filter sock.

big als has mesh bags cheap could just drop that in and are only a $1.50
