...and so it begins!

Is that bubble algae under your frag rack?  Looks like a pretty healthy amount.

It is just bunch of aragonite. Oddly enough bubble algae is something I don't struggle with at all in my tank.

Gotcha.  So, how is the lighting working out?  You think it changed anything?  I'm not trying to spark a LED vs. T5/MH debate here, that can be saved for another thread.

So I am not sure what to say. It seems awfully coincidental that the SPS that have been introduced slowly since setting up my new lights have all done far better than I have ever seen with LED.

Yes, I could chalk it up to my tank doing slightly better over the past few months of not dicking around with the tank. But the biggest change has been my lights. (the only real change)

As the photos show, they seem pretty darn happy with all their little polyps waving around which I never really got a glimpse of when I was with LED. My water quality has been more stable, I have to admit that, I don't mess with anything anymore and perhaps that has also helped tremendously.

Draw your own conclusions, but I couldn't be happier with my tank right now. But talk to me again in 6 months and we'll go from there. lol.

Smart man. I have the same fixture and I can grow anything and everything with it. Of course water perameters are imperitive but a fixture with lots of par and a full spectrum is crucial for SPS. Yes, there is lots of success with LED's but it can also be a crap shoot in some instances and with some fixtures as you have found out. T5 is a no brainer. Plug it in and get results with no messing around.

Re: 220 Gallon tank - 4 month update

Not sure if everyone seen it or not but I posted a video called "reefs of riches" on here a week ago or so.... Talks about how important light (sunlight in the video) is for all coral.....I will often put distressed sps is high light and par to try to bring it around again and it usually works....I have found that putting sps in low light right off the bat is poor practice.... Some say to put them in low par and slowly increase the light....I have found that the reverse of that works better actually.
