That is one sweet looking trigger.  They are such cool fish, they way they move is so unique and they seem to have a lot of personality.

Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

Christmas came a little early for me, just picked up a couple neatly packed boxes of BRS Pukani Rock.. This stuff is nice!

I think they pull it straight out of the reef and let it bake dry in the sun. I found some dried organic matter deep within the nooks and caves. My plan is to do a full cleaning and curing process before it goes into the big tank. Will be using all Pukani and Fiji shelf rock, I have plenty now, probably twice as much as I need. I will have to pick which pieces will be best for my minimalist aquascape.

Sweet, looks like great stuff... what is the plan for cleaning and curing?  Using the acid and power wash, then cure in bins for a while?

You got it, there are several threads over at RC about curing Pukani, I will use a a mild acid solution to soak, power wash, soak in RODI, water changes, etc, etc. A lot of guys use lanthanum chloride to pull out phosphates too.

Here is the BRS video about Pukani and aquascaping with it..

Sucks it's winter..  Sure would be a lot easier to acid bath and wash that stuff in the driveway. Whats the word on the tank? Been patiently waiting for your update

I know, I was thinking I will have to wait for the temp to rise before there will be any power washing action going on.

It will be another 6 weeks or so before my tank is ready, They build it, then let it cure for 4 weeks, then ship it.
They use "wacker silicone" http://www.wacker.com/cms/en/wacker_group/divisions/silicones/silicones.jsp to adhere all the panels. Its suppose to be one of the best materials used to build tanks. Also it is easier to work with in more temperate climates, so we shall wait and see.

Patience is a virtue.  Looks like you are taking your time and not rushing in, doing everything right from the start - I like your approach, I think it will pay major dividends in the long run!  ;D

Be prepared for a long wait, JMO but I've tried going this route and it takes for ever to achieve the end result.

I agree that waiting sucks, but it's all about enjoying the journey.

In the meantime, I still have my 90 gallon reef along with a frag tank project that I am currently working on.
Pics to come soon ;)

Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

Finally after tracking down a few bulkheads (thanks Petercar!) I got the frag tank stand built, rough plumbed the fragtank 36x24x12 and did a wet test. Here are a few pics of the progress.

I have a few storage totes for a sump and will be using a couple more to cure the rock for my new build. Im wondering now if I should use something else as these aren't "Commercial Brute" grade and could leach..

I would you Acrylic or Glass tanks, I know that would be more expensive but if you could get an old 120 and then reuse it for a Fuge down the road, that would be great. But looks good so far T

This tank is glass, and I have considered plumbing it underneath the big tank, as a frag tank. Still thinking about that though. I like the thought of a stand alone frag tank for quarantine, etc.

I was thinking about rock storage for the 120, I like the stand alone Frag Tank idea, That way you could partion a foot for Quarantine. Any thing under your display is hard to get at, Is the Entire set up going in the Basement?

Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

Just an update…

I moved over my 36" 8 bulb ATI fixture to the fragtank along with some colonies and frags.

I have been slowly transferring things over and will eventually have all things moved over and spaced out nicely.

...added an MP40 for flow and put some live rock in the sump.

I should have a lot of softies available soon, lots of shrooms, anthelia, pink and green star polyps, as well as some live rock full of other good stuff.

Here is an action shot…

Also did some damage and made some decisions by committing to a few key pieces of gear for the new build…

ATI Sunpower 8 bulb x 80watt fixture and bulbs

..and FINALLY, got my Tunze 6215 Wavebox

I temporarily set it up in my 90gallon system and have been very pleased with its performance even though I have it dialled down to its lowest setting. It is not silent, but the owners manual says it quiets down after the break in period of 3 weeks.

Things are good over here ;)
