A Naso in a 90G tank??? ARE YOU CRAZY!!!!  ;D Just kidding, I shouldn't talk either... I have a Hippo Tang, Foxface, Sargassum Trigger, Purple Tang, Fowleri Tang and a Sailfin Tang in a 180G.... Oh, and 10 Blue Streak Cardinals and a pair of Clowns.. And, I still need to get a Naso Tang to rid my tank of the bubble algae.  :? I may have to give one large fish up to make room for the Naso I think. Everyone is happy though and no fighting so all is good.

Ha ha ha. I am crazy, that is a fact. The more the merrier!!

The Blonde Naso is huge, but seems pretty happy and now doesn't look as big as I thought he would in his new home.

I needed to add some more fish so I could feed my tank more, since adding my biopellets. I will see how things go, but so far so good.

Of course, if some  nice member wants to hook me up with a nice custom starphire build, my new tangs would be greatful! Of course, a 140 still wouldn't be approved by the tang police!

Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

You have a really nice tank.
Do you use a supplement for your tank that makes your rocks purple?

Most of the purple has become blue clove polyps, they just exploded over the past year or so. It's a preference thing, I dont think they sting anything and fill in alot of the gaps.

i have a 48 inch ati fixture with 8 bulb 54w You think that would be to much for a 90 gallon?

What you think?

I think that it will be fine, just adjust it if you find that there is too much output.
You might want to consider including 2 Geissman Super Actinics to help manage the output.

blue plus x 4
coral plus x2
geissman super actinics x2

Bill @ IA runs this combination in his DT and is getting awesome results,

If you want to trade fixtures let me know ;)

Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

Well, I finally got a chance to build the framing for my new canopy that would have to capacity to cover my new ATI fixture without interfering with the active cooling process. Since the width of the ATI fixture is 17.5 inches and the width of my tank is 18 inches, I only had a half inch to play with. I also had to find a way to incorporate my two DIY LED strips without blocking the light output. With this canopy, I opted for an open top so allow for better temperature control instead of depending on my fans to help manage the heat.

Here is the front half of the hood that will swing up. It is mounted on hinges to the main structure.

A front view of the main structure with the fixture hanging from the center brace. The brace is removable so that I can easily have access for light changes or maintenance.

Both parts hinged together with the LED strips and ballasts mounted. This took a while because I had to ensure proper clearance when the canopy lifts and needed maximum light coverage with LEDs.I need to put the optics back on.

Top view of the open top. The fixture is over to the left since I have a bunch of acros on the left side of my tank

A full top view. You can see the right side has more space between the fixture and the right side of my tank edge.

Finished  ;D

So now I need to figure out what material I can use to build the skirting for my canopy. I will be leaving the back open to maximize ventilation. I am thinking about 1/4 -3/8 inch thickness of material.  Any ideas?
