I am so sorry that you lost the eel, it just plain sucks, I'm happy that Bill is going to replace Fluffy, I wonder was Fluffy tank raised or was he wild caught? I have no idea whether they transport wild eels that large, I'm just thinking that if in fact he was, tank raised would be the better option. I don't know if they are even breeding in captivity, just thinking out loud

I don't know if it was wild caught or captive bred but I do know that the next one should be smaller as Bill says the other supplier he uses usually sends smaller ones.

Hi Yvette, tell Dave not to be disenchanted, it sucks to lose one, but I think if the next one is smaller he'll be even more enchanted as he watches it grow. I know that Wendy (DJs) has never had any trouble getting the smaller ones to eat uncooked shrimp broken into smaller chunks and they're little piglets for sure. I also love my engineer gobies and they grew to over a foot in length very quickly, they too love raw pieces of shrimp - easy keepers and they look very much like an eel and are very peaceful in the tank

Time for an update:

On Thursday I picked up our new Eel. He is only the size of a common Milksnake (or the size of a pencil). After acclimating and adding him to our tank he has been very active and is eating well! What a difference from Fluffy! I'm not sure what Dave is going to name him yet.

Also, in the interim, Dave decided he wanted a bigger tank. He now has a new 220 Gallon tank that we have yet to set up. It looks massive next to the 75 gallon tank he currently has. I'll post pictures of it once we start the build.

I agree.  I told Dave this is the last tank for him.  But I can't complain too much....I just bought a 160g for my seahorses...   It is also my last tank upgrade

Congratulations on the upgrade in tanks Yvette and Dave, and also the new eel, that's what I'm used to seeing when they eat, what they don't have in good eyesight they make up for in enthusiasm for food ! He's adorable, I love the snowflake eels. It will be sweet to watch him grow.

It has been a very tiring couple of weeks dismantling and moving everything but it is starting to come together now.  The new Eel is definitely a joy to watch but it's also fun to watch the joy on Dave's face when he feed the Eel.  I love it!

Hi Yvette, I can only imagine how big a job the move was! I'm so happy that Dave has a little buddy that will eat like a pig! Dave will have him trained in no time to come up for his food ! exciting times !

The nice thing about the seahorse tank though is that it is a dream to clean because I keep it bare bottom with removable decorations that I bleach and de-chlorinate each week.  I only have my reef tank to clean as well and Dave can clean his own tank.    It will help keep him interested.

Pics will come, I promise but I haven't even started changing Dave's tank over yet.  I have the reef put in place now and everything is in it, the seahorse tank is now filling with water and the seahorses are lounging around in their refugium    Once the tank is full and the plumbing is done I'll start a thread with before and after shots of everything.

Dave decided to wait for the shark because this little Eel is so little that he would become dinner for sure!!!

That is so nice of you Sherry.  Thanks for your offer.  You are welcome to come over anytime it suits but I have accomplished most of the grunt work myself now with the exception of beginning to set up Dave's tank.  Luckily Dave's tank doesn't have all the corals in it to preserve during the move and we can just move and arrange rocks.  Dave can help with that this weekend maybe.  First we have to make enough water, which is a challenge of it's own.  Today after physio I am going to start building a piece of furniture to cover the sump that is now in the front hall and will put the 20 gallon on top to tie into the reef tank for my pipes.  I absolutely love building things and can't wait to start.

How are your tanks doing?

The tanks are all doing very well, thanks.  Dave's tank has matured very nicely and he now has all the fish he wished for.  Unfortunately, we lost the eel a few weeks ago and we aren't sure what happened.  We are guessing it got stung by the Foxface.  Here are some updated photos of his tank and occupants:

In some of the shots you will notice some fish in the background.  These are part of the mural behind the tank and give the tank a wonderful 3 dimensional depth.  I love the effect I see.  Currently we have an Emperor Angel who is just starting to turn from its juvenile coloring to its adult coloring, a Foxface, a One Spot Foxface, a Desjardin Tang, Yellow tang, Naso Tang, Lionfish, blue tang, Bahama Starfish and a 3 Stripe damsel residing in the 220 gallon tank.  All are getting along well and eating like little piggies!
