Well , my small tank days will be comming to an end , so no more 5 gal pails laying around the house with water ,

I need some help to what and where to buy something 100% reef safe storage container but will be used for mixing for water changes for a 120g display and I have a glass tank for top off .

I used the brutes in the past but I’m a believer that they potential leach down the road , I don’t want anything crazy size it’ll be going under my stairs in the basement , also I won’t be “storing” water in there long just fill it when I’m about to need it .

Thanks for the help !

I always use a brute for weekly 30g changes, I fill it Friday, heat over night add salt and pump and go. I've had it filled for several days and TDS still shows zero. I also wipe it down after every use, just a dry dowel then paper towel with a touch of vinegar. I also have the lid on 95% of the time.

Thanks @Jason Bell , I’ll definitely consider it again , I kinda thought if I do like you said then shouldn’t leach/ also affordable

Hey Luke, I cant recall the exact details but there was a farm just outside kitchener that used to sell food grade water containers for dirt cheap, had a TON of them. I think they were in the St. Jacobs area. I wish i knew exactly where. I am not sure if they post online or just have signs outside their farm. If you can find the info I know it was a hell of a deal.

I recommend ensuring the containers are new. A lot of people selling 55g drums have had some form of feed, syrup, oil stored in them.

@Matt1997 let me know your quote if you don’t mind , what size are you going for ? I’d also be interested in the hight and diameter!

I’ll let you know about the shipping. The 100 gallon vertical cylinder was $235 each.

I think I’ll be looking at 30-55 gallons max due to space under stairs , is the one you looking at with or without a drain ? You just going to use a sump pump and off you go for water changes eh?

Without a drain. Just run a pump out the top when I do water changes

I use the blue brute for any long term storage as I find the black ones leach. I used to use the black ones but i had a constant algae issue and decided to swap out to the blue. Within the week with no other changes the algae started to go away. So now i only use the black ones for water changes for the old water.
