Picked up a 30 gallon tank on kijiji for 10 bucks this weekend for a QT. I'm not going to treat my fish with copper as they have been living with ick for the last few years....Im thinking 3 week with cooper before they go in the new tank

No point. You used water and rock from the old tank so ich is already present in the new tank. Would have to let the tank go fallow for a lot longer for the parasite to die off and even then it will probably come back at some point. Just keep your fish healthy and stress free and ich shouldn't be a problem. It will be more stressful for your fish to quarantine and medicate them unless the ich is really bad.

I've had the tanking running now with no fish for 3 weeks and if I have in QT tank for 3 more weeks the tank will be with no fish for 6 weeks... isn't it 6 weeks fallow to rid ick ?

Unless your going to be very strict about dipping and quarantining everything added to the tank from now on, its a waste of time. I've got ich in my tank. As long as everyone is happy, its never been an issue. I believe most people have it in their tanks as well whether they admit it or not.

New toys always make my day. :)

Is the skimmer in the right water level? I think BM suggests 8-10" max. New skimmers may need to be raised slightly while it breaks in.

The water intake is 10 inches below the water line, should I raise it up?

What ever the water level is in that section. If it is more then 8", then I would recommend raising the skimmer so that it is 8" in the water. If the chamber water level is 12", then make a 4" stand for the skimmer. Egg crate and zip ties works well.

Your going to have to raise quite a bit. They work best in 8"
