new filter sock gurgles

Since my upgrade when I change my filter sock, my sump makes a gurgling noise. It seems to stop when my sock is getting dirty or is plugged. Is this normal ?

I cannot understand how a filter sock is causing any noise. if anything it should make it quieter, and as the the sock gets dirty and begins to overflow it should start making noise (of the overflow) depending on the level of where the sock is relative to the water line.

Gurgling noises is usually attributed to air in the drain line.

I agree 100%. I cant figure it out. when it over flows, its quiet and when its new it gurgles because of the air. I guess.

how far in the sock is yur tubing ?

maybe 1/2 inch in the water, just to stop the crashing sound

Sounds like air, no biggie but I'd lower the pipe a bit more below the surface.

When your socks are clean you have good flow through them and you will see your level in your overflow drop a bit. Perhaps you are hearing that noise. When your socks are dirty they have restricted flow so you will see your level in your overflow rise a bit and it will be quieter. This is what I find with my system.

I believe I have narrowed down the noise to air in the over flow. So my new question is how do I get rid of the air and not have the flushing sound ?

If the air is on the drain line that is suppose to be a full siphon, just close the valve slightly until the air is gone. Do you have water coming out of the other drain line? What type of return are your running (bean/Herbie/Durso)?

cant really troubleshoot without that info lol

I have water coming out of the drain. I don't have a valve on it because I was told it could clog up. So u can just close it. I am running a dorso drain. It is the kit that comes with the perfecto tanks.

i wouldnt put a valve on a durso drain,have you messed with the flow rate?any pics of the drain setup?
