well i finally got my new hammerhead up and running.  i have 4 returns in my tank, all with lockline.  2 are at least 18" below the surface, 2 about 10".
one of the lower ones was pointed up at the overflow, just to help direct gunk out of the tank, i didn't think about this when i fired up the pump.  fortunately the mh lights were off at the time.  the water shot up about 2' on the wall, after hitting the light and hood.lol
i only had it running for a second when i remembered, so not much of a mess.
the new pump is running 2 reactors downstairs, then pumping up to my dt.  i no longer need power heads for flow.lol
im flowing about 3000 gph and it works well, the only thing i don't like is the hum.  hopefully it will quiet down in a few days, if not i'll have to add some flex in the plumbing.  so the bean animal can flow with 1 1/2" over 3000gph, and i still have my emerg unused.
now i just need to clean out the dust and point the nozzles where i want them and should be good(till i get an mp-40.lol)
thank god the 8 month struggle is over.lol
but the fish can't figure out what went wrong

SO by the sounds of it, this is the pump to buy for our very similar builds.

120 DT up stairs
75 Gal sump downstairs
And one big ass pump :)

I need to ask about the sump and the amount of flow going through it:)

As well as how much flow is through your 2nd open channel drainpipe?  The reason I ask is because I have 1in holes drilled in the tank not the 1.5. So I am wondering if the 1 inch will be enough with the 2 drains.  I am getting the feelin that they shoulda been bigger :(

i'm only flowing through the single 1 1/2" drain.  2-1" wouldn't be enough.  with the full siphon i have the one drain throttled back a bit, but with a 1" you might be ok wide open.  1 would differently leave 1 for emergency in case a snail goes for a walk.lol
i tried closing my drain and the emerg picked up the flow, so i have a safety valve, with 1" if something went wrong your screwed.lol
the 1 1/2" will flow 4x the 1" under full siphon.
i also don't have the pump throttled back at all, i plan to play with it later but having it off for a few hours i want to clean out the gunk.
i have gotten rid of 4 power heads upstairs, and 3 downstairs and have more flow.  the fish are all out playing in the streams, now i just have to wait for the gunk to get caught up in the filter floss so i can have a clean tank again.  i'll post some pics in a few of my set up.

Is the high flow through the sump giving you any kind of issues?

none at all.  a little noise but not to bad.  i'm using the hammerhead and have it running about 70% right now, and am running 2 reactors with biopellets on the pump also.
