So i just recently recieved a new skimmer from a fellow reefer. Im just wondering if its normal for higher end skimmers to not have a knob for adjusting the skimmers water intake? I have a Marine Sources skimmer, not exactly sure on the series, but its apparently rated for 175g. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question all ive ever had are Coralife skimmers lol. Im running it now in water with vinegar to get it cleaned out. Do i have to adjust how deep the water is? Thanks in advance.

What is the water level in the sump in that chamber? Should be 9-10" in the sump. Skimmers typically do not control the input, they control the output. By turning the top red (pink) pipe, you should see the level in the skimmer change

Where the white T for the skimmer output. Look inside the T fitting you will see the red pipe is only open on one side, twist the red pipe to change water level, you make have to also adjust the very top pieces position in order to do so, so that the airline hose doesn't have straight tension.

All good advice, turning the red pipe should adjust the height of the water, make small adjustments and give it time before adjusting again, And yes for optimum results you should be running it in saltwater,

That's not a strong point of those skimmers. you could try and build a box around it with Styrofoam or put it on a rubber pad. I think I speak for most of us when I say a quiet skimmer is a must.
