In my case,  mine are mounted 4" from waterline..  So I removed the optics which 'focus'  the light to 'disperse' the light and not end up with "disco" effect.
Regardless of how high,  I'd consider doing this to the red and green leds anyway.

I left the optics on the outside 2 rows to focus the light and not spill out the sides of the tank..  Not sure it was necessary.

Also left them on the row closest to the front of the tank because this is the deepest part of the tank and wanted to focus the light to the sandbed..

Clear as mud?  Lol

You can always call me,  I'll tell you my thoughts about what my thoughts are..

Yet another addition

One of my favorite fish, and I was lucky enough to find one that's been kept for awhile by a hobbiest and readily eats clams and mysis :)

Yes, however between the divorce and the cost for a large tank, it may (read I am thinking about the pros and cons here) not be worth it ... lol.

In all seriousness, for me I need to get a handle on my little one for the first couple of years :)

Look what came in the mail today!

Mixed feelings, love the colour and there solid units - full spectrum dimmable
Hardly any disco affect and a good shimmer.

Problems right of the bat- not enough spread, I might have to supplement with t5's,

My tank is 24" wide in the middle and 18" on the sides, the middle needs some more light.

Other than that we'll see how it goes over he next couple weeks!

Buy another unit and turn 2 inside other way so they are width wise on length?

And with that aquascape,  I'd bet you be ok..  From what I understand,  the led although appears dimmer,  the light output  (par)  is greater

Give it a few days before you do anything...  I agree,  a totally different look indeed..  But it grows on you!  I really like mine now

I actually have another one above my nano but I need it lol...

I'm
Thinking a good option might be a 36" 4 bulb t5 , that's the length between the two overflows in the middle
