No Styro here. I have my tank right on my stand. Shimmed the stand to make it 100% level.

I have the plastic trim on my tank for reference to what Glen was saying.

Under larger tanks I use an inch of the relatively soft pressboard.  I figure that relative to the weight of a large tank it serves the same purpose as a layer of polystyrene under a smaller tank.

Under acrylic I have melamine coated mdf.  A very flat rigid surface to fully support the acrylic.  The stand for my 200gal acrylic was made by clarity plus who made the tank and that is their recommendation.  The stand that I got with the 280gal acrylic was made by Tenecor and it has a sheet of acrylic that the tank sits on.

Only going by what I read :) and I recently looked up because when I tore down torx's old frag tank to put Darryl v's old frag tank it's place I was going from acrylic to glass, and wanted to make sure new stand was correct.
