Quick Question

My overflow box is 4" front to back.

My bulkheads are slip x threaded

I bought 1" threaded to slip adapters so I can add my 1" elbows. However I noticed this sticks out further than 4 inches and won't fit.

If I buy 1.5" elbows, do you think those fill fit over the 1" adapters I bough? I just need to save about 1/2" and this should do the trick (if it fits)

not sure if this what your talking about.. is the bulkhead too big... check out reef supply, there is a strainer that is round and flat, that should give you a bit more room.. hope we are talking about the same thing...

Will not fit over and make a tight seal, get what is known as a street elbow, thread to slip. Saves one fitting and likely an inch space.

Again if not what you want/need take a picture for better explanation

This is looking down into the overflow box. It has 4" of clearance

My bulkheads are threaded so I buy a 1" Thread to Slip adapter so I can use my 90 degree elbow. Well, when I put the adpater and the elbow together they pretty much are 4" give or take a small amount. I still would need a piece of PVC to attach the two and then it 100% won't fit.

How do I attach my elbows into these bulkheads and still fit inside my overflow box?

Get a 1" nipple @ 3" long and cut the ends off so you can thread into the bushing and slip over the nipple.

The ones in the last picture are possibly not threaded bulkheads. They could be 1" smooth bulkhead. Or 1/2 thread 1/2 smooth to accept 1" plumbing. You'll have to find a 90 with threads and a threaded coupler. Lowe's should have them.

You will not find it in stock locally, but could be ordered from a place like plastco in London, or maybe our local guy @Pipes might be able to order you up some.

I'm pretty sure when I built heath's tank she needed the same thing and ordered them someplace?

This is from Pastco's website. Is this what I need?

Street elbow will work. I personally did the nipples. 3" nipples as well. (Never thought I could post that safely lol). 'Nipples' are pipes with threads on either end and smooth in between. Then just hack saw them in half so you have one end now threaded and the other slip. They are cheap and should be available at any plumbing store.

Thanks torx.

Will HD carry them?

I doubt it, I know they sell brass, galvanized and black steel pipe, but I doubt PVC. A local plumbing shop like Household Plumbing over on Adelaide St would be a great store for parts. Give them a call to check maybe five one nine - 438-1121
