I've been battling it for about a month, I thought it was from my salt but it was actually from not flushing my RODI. While research I can't remember so post about some ppl not mixing there salt proberly and just dumping it into the sump while dosing certain stuff. From what read the salt mixed with what ever they were dosing.

I had a dino outbreak start when I first tried reef crystals, and went away when I (amoung other things) threw the rest of the bucket away and went to royal nature salt.  I'll never use the stuff again.  Google 'reef cyrstals slime' and look at the results.  In fact, I ditched using IO products altogether after that.

Now if we can talk Big Al's into carrying Royal nature.....

They carr red sea which is very similar. Its an ocean evaporated salt product.

Have you read the reviews about rtn and stn issues experienced by GTA Reefers using Royal Nature?

you guys just panic too easily lol. google royal nature salt, youll find negative feedback on it as well. Hell just jump over to AP theres a whole thread dedicated to blaming royal nature for tank crashes lol..not that i buy into it or anything.

Cyano can occur as a result of any change really. In most cases if you keep things consistant, and your husbandry is good..the cyano will stop appearing. You just have to wait it out for the most part.

Same thing with pellets. I got a decent cyano outbreak from pellets, i waited it out and kept doing my regular maintenance. Now its gone, and hasnt appeared back since.

We sure do I like the red sea salt for the fact that they refine it straight from saltwater.  I think it is a 9 step process or something like that.  I have never used royal nature and probably won't in the near future.
If you feel like you want to spend the money on a good salt. I like Tropic Marin salt.  I actually like most of their products for additives.

Yes we do carry NLS food as well.  I did get a small breakout from that food when I first started using it but it went away quickly.

Our store doesn't typically ship stuff out.  BigAls has a website for thathttp://www.bigalspets.com/  which doesn't actually help the london store out other then it gets our name out there.  Let me check into what shipping would cost to windsor and we can go from there.

Never had a problem with Instant ocean.

Sometimes when I add dried rock to my tank or add extra frozen food then usual, I get a small outbreak of cyno.

I usually turn the pump's off, then place a small container in the tank on the gravel, then slowly slice off  the top layer of aragonite and cyno with a spoon, then carefully place it inside the container.

When the container is full, I slowly lift it out of the tank and throw the aragonite and cycno out.

This has always gotten rid of my cyno.

I actually googled it a while back, and never did find anything on it.

Truth be told I'm on the tropic marin salt now, but it's pricey, and the tub I got last from Big Al's was a solid brick, I've been using a chisel to get chunks out of it.  From the dust on the lid I would say it had been there quite a while,  ;D I think most people go for the cheaper salt.  Still, I think I would use it again, everything has been good since I started using it.  That said I had really good results with Royal Nature, I might give red sea a go.  Except for the reef crystals, I've never had a catastrophic event, and even then there is such a thing as a 'bad batch', who knows.

its not a big deal anyway it goes away on its own in a couple days anyway might just switch salt for a bit and see what happens
