It's nice to hear from people within the hobby itself.... With actual reef keeping experience behind them...without product to sell, without sponsors to promote, and just honest observations and experiences.
The nitrate article is fantastic and I highly recommend it to anyone battling nitrates or who just wants to understand them better.

ive already read most of that over a year ago but finding info like that takes alot of e-mailing the right people and places or knowing where to look. it is good to see it get out more main stream without advertising to promote "their" product..... some really good readings for sure tho

Where did you read all that over a year ago???
Also, did you notice the part regarding nitrates?..... It relates directly to our carbon and nitrate discussion.

i had e-mailed a marine biology group in australia lol got a few cousins that live there and found me sources and my carbon info comes straight from the water treatment plant head tech.... we seal all their tanks in rubber but their machine backwashes carbon prolonging life as well and yes i understand carbon dosing formula very well and other similar sciences lol but if you ask people whos job water purification they will confirm it does absorb ammonia and nitrate well for the first third of use time. They then backwash and start the process again once depleted the cook it in a rotary kiln and steam activate it to be used again just as good as new.

I have found some of the most helpful and most willing to give info on their studies are biologists most the new stuff coming into the reefing hobby was already figured out 10 years ago in the ocean by researchers it just took time for companies to get enough confidenceto drop big money on production

if you want good reliable places to ask away try e-mailing the queensland university marine sciences and marine biology departments depending what your looking for they will almost allways point you to what resource they use on the subject. has done me well and is why i ditched alot of stuff and went simple it was plainly not needed after much study

Ok but there is a difference between carbon dosing and running GAC in a reactor.....

yes but simple purification isnt using a reactor even in a media bag will draw out ammonia and nitrates temporarily read how much only carbon affected in the controlled test at a fish farm ????? and ot was a test for absorbtion rate specifically and if carbon doesnt absorb them then why does almost every single water filtration thing using carbon post how much per volume it can actually absorb many different manufacturers list both ammonia and nitrate ABSORBTION rates :)

carbon dosing is completely different subject than carbon absorbtion.... i dont think you fully understand what im trying to explain.... i guees scientists in labs have no clue which is where mr. farley prob gets majority of info he is simply bringing it available to reefers because he has dedicated the time to do so most that stuff has been around and taught in university for years now the only thing ive argued about is carbons absorbtion capabilities which is a completely different process shall i dig up the formula for that for you? im sure its easy enough to find on the net if you looked. Maybe you should e-mail him for a response about everything carbon does for your system and not just a specific writing on one key element.
