Off that open valve I have added a manifold to either fill a bucket or I run a hose to my tanks.

@4Hummer 's setup is pretty cool. Part of his setup is what gave me my idea, although I couldn't 100% implement it due to space and existing equipment.

I originally had 2 of the 55g containers, and sold one off after giving it more thought from advice of some other members. Pros and cons to both ways.

i have a question- how long do you let your salt water mix ?
i have questions as to whether or not you can let it mix for too long- does it develop /start a cycle? When i had my 60g barrel setup i let water sit for a good 2 weeks .... im curious if this negatively affected my tanks/

@Poseidon, I let mine mix for 20min or so and it will sit there till I need it. I do a water change when my corals say so.
I have seen your old tanks and I wouldn't worry about adverse affect. Looked great to me.

100% depends on the salt you are using. You can 100% mix it for too long depending on this.

No need to let sit for two weeks. Most of the good salts brands will mix stable within a few hrs, especially if you add a power head, heater and an air stone like I do. I normally wait 24 hrs to let things chemically calm down and heat to temp. But I have used it within the hr after mixing with no negative effects.

My own personal experience.

I use Red Sea Coral Pro. So their own instructions. I've seen in person what mixing too much does to this salt. I've seen in person what mixing this in heated water does. It mixes quick, but you gotta do a little at a time or it will cloud, and you will get a lot of silt at bottom of your tank. Might still have pictures. There are youtube videos from them explaining as well.

This is why I said salts are different. Not specific to one or the other, but more to make the point of checking to see what each companies recommendations are.

Red sea says 30 minutes to 2 hours of mixing, and DO NOT mix more than 4 hours. Add to cold or room temp water. Heat after. Remember salinity will rise when it's heated so keep that in mind. if you're mixing large batches.

no my prob is it was easier to do a water change and then mix the new salt for the next water (2 weeks later) all in one day

Why not just do constant water change? Especially if you are going to keep such a large container. I change out 3G a day and don't lift a finger. My only job is to make the salt in the storage container every 2 weeks. That's on total system gallon of about 330 so I change out about 30% a month this way.

Im cheap 5 gallon pail and a good old powerhead n heater ( these set ups are nicer) if anyone wanted to donate one I'll be glad to take it lol

Still got that link? I was about to start building a system with 2 salt tubs from old softeners, but these containers look way cooler!
