Hey team,

I got some new black sand I plan on using ... it says wash it well and then put it in ... I wasn't playing on putting water in the tank for about a week ... so I was hoping I could just put it in so i can place my rock and see if i need more or not ..... now if i wash it and then put it in ,... it will be wet in there for a week or so ... or is that ok ??? or will it go bad... I am not putting livestock for about a month..

thoughts???

thank you

Some of the tanks online look amazing with black sand. I've heard it makes it a bit harder to notice when some algae growth begins tho. Tried washing my sand when I started not really sure if I did it rights but everyone seems to recommend it

should be fine if you dont have a pouch of stuff to add.... you should put your rock in first on top of eggcrate to keep pressure points off the glass itself then add your sand or something burrowing could cause a landslide

Just be careful with this sand as it isn't aragonite based it quartz if I remember correctly. So you lose all buffering capabilities, it's also quite fine from memory. Not sure if that's something I'd personally wanna use in my reed tank. Caribsea makes their Hawaii Black sand. Though you will be paying a little more because it is live but at least it's not super fine and will still buffer your water.
