Keep it clean.
Yeah i do i empty it every cpl of days. But it still stinks
If your skimmer has vent holes in the lid that are letting the smell out. Try lying a media bag of carbon over the holes.
Yeah it has holes in it, that is for sure where the smell is coming from. Ill have to find a big media bag and buy some carbon, since i dont run carbon.

I have thought about doing the carbon suggestion for the smell myself. I got the idea a while back from the Reef Octopus waste containers. I may still do it, but I have a few other aquarium projects on the go (to be posted later). All I would need is the canister, then a carbon canister connected somehow. I would add a switch and hook it to my Apex to auto shut off when full. Below is a link to the RO one.

Here is my Apex code. Skimmer won't come on for 5 minutes after power comes on, or after I switch my return pump on via the outlet or the variable speed outlet. Once I install a float valve in the cup, I will add the code to shut it off if the float is triggered as well.

Don't block the holes in the skimmer lid at all, this will affect the skimmer production and reduce the amount of skimmate

Loose packed dry carbon shouldn't block the air flow. Actually this is a must do if you are running ozone to absorb any excess that might escape into the air.
