I just caught my last fish today to put them into a QT tank. Picked up a powder blue tang about a month ago, started showing signs of it a week after. Started feeding garlic to no avail. All the fish had it before I started transferring them out. So now all the fish are in the QT tank to get cleaned up.

Good luck :) hope all goes well

Sometime QTing is the demise of a fish.
If it is eating and not hiding, leave it in display.
All fish "should" be QT before they go in the display. Catching and bagging a fish causes great stress on the fish especially when most of us have to dismantle rock and the such to get the fish out.

This all of a sudden healthy fish is now susceptible to issues normally overseen when fish was healthy.

You may have already had ich in your tank, or the guy you bought new fish from could have it in his, with no visual signs.

If it truely is ich then good quality water and fight should have it "managed" and not a problem in short while.

All fish seem fine, all eating, swimming normal, except the tang who seems to be very jittery, he is still letting my cleaner wrasse pick at him, but very very cautiously!!!!

That is what is awesome about this site. Feel free to vent. After all, we are all pissed when we see ich. Even more so when we work so hard to keep it out of our tanks. We love our corals and fish and something like this can be detrimental to the over all health of our tank. I hope your fish stay strong through it.

As others have said, overfeed, but also increase temp a couple degrees. I've had friends do this with fantastic success. I know it's going to happen to me eventually so I've been trying to plan courses of action so I'm not panicking when the time eventually comes.

Now you need to leave your display fallow, they say, for 72 days, or it's a total waste of time. Hope you have a big DT.

I don't even bother with QT anymore. I don't have the room, and I don't have the patience for it lol

Remember...things are not always what they appear to be and this is what causes so many of the misconceptions about ich that are out there.

In SW fish spots and bumps (skin irritations) can be caused by many many things...you are not seeing the parasite like in FW. Think of a pimple full of infection that is actually under the skin....though in some cases it could be a rash or hives...you don't know that it is actually ich...

Fish visit cleaners to help the itchy irritated feeling not because the cleaners can even get at the actual parasites.

The idea that they are on the outside of the fish or that temperature changes affect them are all myths that come with the misconception that FW ich is in any way similar to SW ich, which it is not.

To qualify the "in any way similar" comment obviously they are both aquatic protozoal obligate parasites but that is much of the cause of the confusion... Best to think of the two as completely unrelated because they are...for example hyposalinity won't fight your FW ich outbreak...LOL

Plus one on leave everything alone !!! I have tried it all in my earlier years guess what mostly everything I tried killed most of the fish fresh water dips copper hypo salinity many meds to be honest it only stresses them out more and most of the time in my experience cause them to die I've had it many times leave it be keep feeding they will be fine! I can almost guaranty anybody that has a tang has had a spot of ick on it at one point or another look at them the wrong way and bam ick

Good deal, I believe that a good part of the recovery is if you can keep them eating and let their natural immune fight it off... then you can name him Luigie...
