So.... Who Has Some Plumbing 101 Advice For Me?

So I have been chugging along getting my tank plumbed. I am pretty sure I have it all figured out.

BUT

Holy crap am I making a mess.

I have some purple primer that's dripped down a pipe. A few grey PVC glue smudges here and there.

How the hell do I get this PVC together without making such a mess?

Is there anyway to clean things up a bit once I am done?

Has anyone ever spray painted their PVC once assembled?

If I do spray it, will the spray paint seal my unions shut?

Just wipe it down after you join the pieces. Paper towels are key

Hi Easto,

I had the same thing with the purple primer. i NOW use the little plumbing glue brushes- much cleaner.
as for cleaning after the fact,..... good luck with that. LOL.
best bet is to just paint the plumbing. that is what I did and it turned out nice. however, I did tape off the valves. probably didn't need to as the paint should break away with the first twist but....i did not want to take the chance myself.

Man, this 48" tank has taken me over a year to get going. Between life and ..... well, life I haven't had the time to actually get this rolling.

I started the stand in the summer and finished painting it a couple weeks ago.

And I am always looking for deals, so it took me a while to get all my equipment. For example I bought my skimmer last Christmas in a boxing week deal - still no water in the tank, LOL.

A big shout out to Unibob, he's been very good to me.

However, once it gets going I'll get some pictures up.

I hear you man. I literally bought my lights LAST October. JUST got fish in the main display 2 days ago! At least we are evidently patient, which from what everyone says, is the key to this hobby if you want to be successful.

Too late now, but you could buy clear primer and clear glue.

I use the clear glue but was unable to find the clear Primer for PVC.
So where does one but it?

I get mine from Plasco London. My joints have to be perfect as it's my profession. So... If at first you don't succeed, Cheat! No glue issues when you can't see the glue.

If so, I have unions where I can. Other than that a hacksaw will do the trick

No not at you. In general. I am learning to put threaded couplers at the proximity of expensive fittings like ball joints. Saves replacement costs later.
