someone who builds tanks

It's not too difficult to build a tank, glass or acrylic. Just need the pieces to be square and true. That's half the battle.

My brother and I built his 180 ish gallon tank. It's 38 inches deep lol.

If you have a professional cut your prieces the rest is simple. Especially with a shallow tank.

That said I wouldnt want to build one for some else lol

how deep would i make it? im only making one thats 24x33 since i dont have alot of space. i have 2, 29g tanks thats are goign to be emptied soon as these guys that want the fish in them come then ill be selling them or maybe use them? but i was thinking there way to deep? and for glass or w.e i can get that for free from home hardware so they would be cutting it. im just not sure how thick of glass or how deep i would need it. and do you just use silicon to hold the tank together? i no it sounds stupid even tho thats how tanks are made but it doesnt sound to safe to me lol

You be be surprised the power of silicone. But beware, silicone does not stick to silicone very well or at all.

Yes, I would have to say cutting the glass is quite tricky.

Locally....they don't advertise that they build tanks, but they will as I have had them repaired and built before...kinda pricey though but maybe they would give a deal if you supplied glass.

i think he was looking to not have to pay a company to do it.  I would order the materials with the excat cuts needed, edges polished.
Have an extra set of hands and duct tape and you can build a tank.  If its glass just clean all the spots for silicone using acetone.:)

You can also talk to Flavio from Advanced Reef Aquatics in Milton. He can definitely help out. Why not go acrylic for a frag tank? Cheaper and easy to work with.

You can get Weldon from some suppliers. It is very expensive though... You may make some money on that one.  ;)

+1 on Parker plastics

+1 on Weldon being less available and more expensive this side of the border.

The guys at Parker and I use Methylene Chloride almost exclusively to weld acrylic (they will sell you some if you don't have access to industrial chemicals), although the Weldon products are excellent and less temperature sensitive than raw solvents(easier to handle for newbs).  I usually keep some Weldon 16 around to deal with repairs or joint imperfections because its more convenient than blending some meth and shavings up for a small spot repair.

so i figure that i already have a few tanks around here i been closing down that were frsh water, im going to use one of them. i have a 29g with stand so i might as well use that and make shelving in it with egg crate. but what im trying to figure out is a skimmer? should i run a sump? or would one of those biocube skimmers work? i have a power head, heater, just need skimmer, lights, and egg crate. i was thinking the biocube skimmer cuz i can just put it in one corner of the tank and its out of the way and dont have to worry about drilling and a sump.

i just need some help if its worth getting one or will it even be good enough?

It is always better to drill a tank and add a sump. You get more water volume in the system to help control nitrates and more room for a quality protein skimmer. Of course, the other way is less expensive and less time consuming but drilling is always the "best" way to go. If you do decide to just go for a hang-on-the-back skimmer, I would go with the Tunze 9002 or Deltec skimmer. Try and find a used one if you can. These skimmers work way better than the bio-cube skimmer.

Can testify to how crappy the bio cube skimmers are.
Might as well stick an air stone in a pop bottle would have about the same effect.

I run the tunze 9002 skimmer on my bio cube, not sure how well it works as I have nothing to compare it to. It pulls junk out of the water...haha

For future reference, I just read that Sealife Central here in London makes custom tanks. I was in there the other day, things look good.
