I used Samoan pink sugar sized sand. It's white with bits of pink in it. Looks great but was a pain in the ass when I first started this tank like everyone said I did have small sand storms. Now that it has been inhibited with life it's not bad at all now. I too run a ssb but the depth varies through out my tank. My engineering gobie is constantly moving it on the left side of my tank. I run an Mp 40 on one side and an MP 10 on the other side and a mag 12 for a return pump so I would say flow is pretty good. I rarely see sand tornadoes anymore but the one thing I truely do love now is that everyday the sand shifts slightly with the flow so the sandbed is never the same. Like it would in a shallow reef in the ocean.

same here, i have carib sea fiji pink sand (which is really nice and white) and it looks amazing, but is a pita, it inhibits all encrusting corals growth on the sand bed and easily is blown around, what it is good for is wrasse, many wrasse need a good sandbed to sleep in.
