Sps Encrusting But No Vertical Growth

I have had this sps peice for almost a year. I removed it from the plug and glued directly to the rock. It has, and continues to, encrust, but I have had an unnoticeable amount of vertical growth.

I would love for it to 'grow up', it is an amazing green color with black polyps, but it is taking its time. Anyone seen this?

Ya.. most of my acros have done the same... red planet, limeade nasuta, pink matrix... to name a few. My Cali Tort and red dragon grew well upwards and new branches but others just don't seem interested yet!

I have a few that encrusted first then all of a sudden too off growing upwards

Sometimes they like to encrust before growing up to get a good sturdy base or could just be a little slower grower,

Lights are too bright, doesn't need to streatch to get the light. That's why it growing horizontal. /s

I had this same problem and I believe it was Darryl V that told me to clip the tips off the ends and that would entice it to grow up wards. Well wouldn't you know it worked and before long I was having a problem with having to clip stuff because it was growing into each other.

Indeed, a lot of sps likes to check out it's enviro before it starts exploding. I have a pink lemonade that has -never- grown upwards, it just encrusts. In the new tank, I'm giving it a bunch of space and smooth surface so that it can set itself.

Snipping the tips "can" work sometimes, but as with my pink lemonade, I just ended up with several pieces that only encrust

Patience, it'll work. If it's encrusting and has PE, it'll take off.

+1 ^. That damn Tyree pink lemonade has taken almost 2 years to grow about 1" branches but has spread 5x wider than high

My old fire and ice Prostrata encrusted around the large frag I got from jroovers until it ran out of space to cover. I talked to Darryl...tried all kinds of things....then when it ran out of rock to cover (started running into neighbors) it exploded upwards...branches came up all over the encrusted surface. Perhaps a bit of crowding forces them to grow up more to compete for light.
