What is the best way to set up a QT for Acros? I didnt want to go public, but i have found AEFW in my tank and think it would be best to separate these infected corals and treat them that way, and hopefully stop further spread. I dipped the infected corals today and knocked off a good 40 or so between 6 colonies. How can i keep the qt stable? Will 2 T5s suffice during qt? What else would i need to run this. Or should i just keep everything in the tank and just continue dipping? The infected acros were all cut off theyre orginal bases and rocks, and were chucked, no need for the eggs to hatch in my tank. Thanks in advanced.
(Before anyone makes comments on i should be implementing dips on new arrivals, i always do.)

meh people are allowed to do what they want with their stuff :D i would think 2 t5's would be fine for short term as long as its a very shallow qt. the deeper the more you need to maintain intesity. ive had successful qt in a pale with a powerhead, heater and light is more how much you want to spend but if you make it good at least you will always have it. Cycling the tank is probably easier and less maintenance but if you dont have time to cycle be prepared for lots of water changes and a high risk off loss.

Yeah thats what im worried about is cycling.. ive never had the experience of doing it. And time is of the essence kinda lol. And i can really make water fast enough and have it mixed for daily water changes.

Cycling is easy but you can skip it by using 75% tank water then top up with fresh made water. I always drop 3-4 food pellets in as well for something to rot and keep the water live i found that elimi ated alot of other issues. But if you cycle i just use ammonia for more controle to raise levels but fish food works too just not as controlled then the bacteria have food to start multiplying and wont take long before nitrite and nitrate registers and ammonia drops once ammonia and nitrite are at zero your good. It wont take alot since is just coral so dont go too crazy most recommended amounts are for fish preparation so half should be more than enough.

There are a lot more infested tanks out there than you might think IMO. I have been almost paranoid with dipping since I encountered pests on stuff from some really good tanks...

The thing that scares me is that if AEFW eggs get in or some juveniles on a frag, it could be a year before there are enough to do noticeable damage especially if you have wrasses or scooters eating the big ones.

Ive heard of flatworm exit, but have also read it doesnt really kill flatworms just helps the coral fight them off. So it kinda sounds like a hit and miss thing. Most people ive talked to say its all about being persistent with dipping your corals to kill them off.

If you want I can hold them for you in my frag tank. It's going to be totally empty so there won't be any risk to any of my corals. It's a 60 gallon system with halides for lighting.

unless those frags are worth a ton I would toss them, tear down the tank, cook the rocks in fresh rodi to kill everything, and start over with new membranes and bulbs. This is a huge uphill fight. And unless they are in qt you risk continually infecting your tank with microscopic aefw babies. Tank transfer method daily for a month with a total disinfection of the tank each day is the way I would go.

If you dont have acros you dont need to worry lol. But i think they can live for a couple months. Then the eggs hatching...this is going to be quite the battle. This is why most people shut down, and all of a sudden get out lol.
