Cornbred and JasonFox are know for rebranding corals and taking some pictures that really pop.  Especially cornbred his pictures are either enhanced or taken under actinics.

Like others have backed me up on.  Its all the same setosa.

I dunno if it's fair to put Jason Fox in the same pot as Cornbred (Richard Negret).... Although Jason does take some very enhanced photos, I can testify that his corals do look just as amazing in person. Not to mention the fact that Jason actually uses photos that are of the actual colony or frag. As far as rebranding goes.... Well we can apply the renaming of the same species or coral to almost any vendor or hobbyist out there. The important thing is that when that coral is named by a vendor or hobbyist then the future named frags should keep coming from the same named colony as before. This kind of info can be confusing to newcomers but they will learn in time that names don't identify the coral.... They simply keep the lineage behind that coral as long as the vendor or hobbyist is fair and honest and doesn't start naming another coral the same name....

Ok, well hope I didn't make things more confusing for people lol

No that makes perfect sense. For years I have bought softies, LPS and SPS. Didn't really care what I bought.  This time around I am being a lot more select full in choices. Mostly SPS is the goal this time around, Very happy with the choices made so far. Frags take time to grow and enjoying the view. I remember a time when the biggest colony was my choices and that seems to take the enjoyment out of some of this hobby. Always something to learn in this and everything we doe it seems. Having a veteran reefer like Darryl who knows his SPS is is always nice and seems to give some great pointers and advice.

Yes he did.  Stange dude.  He has a lot of people that like his stuff though.  Some people actually enjoy paying a butt ton of money for something.  It makes it more valuable.  Just ask the guy who bought a jawdropper frag for $1200 or what ever it was.

[/quote]I said they both take eye popping pictures but I said Cornbred especially likes to take enhanced pictures.

As for the rebranding.  Its a gimick for exactly the reason Benz thought it the orange sherbet setosa was different than the Tyree setosa.  Which actually I have seen a couple wild setosa come in over the years and they all seem the same.

One thing we can for sure agree on is the naming of corals does get confusing.  Never buy a coral because of the name.  Names are a fun identifier but that is about it.

Thanks.  There are others on this forum that have great advice and are trustworthy as well.  In fact pretty much anyone on thefragtank will not intentionally steer you wrong.

All great points Darryl. They are likely 100% identical.... The difference in the names means that the Tyree Setosa should have come from Steve Tyree somehow.... Meanwhile the JF Orange Sherbert Setosa comes from Jason Fox.... It would be misleading IMO for JFox to name a coral he cultured as Tyree Setosa when it never actually came from Steve Tyree's colony... Therefore he names it something else.... Are they the same? Yes! But they do not have the same culturing lineage....
Not to point any fingers but I see some naming corals locally as "Tyree" when I question if they actually do have any lineage back to Steve Tyree...
Take this into consideration also.... I have the Wet Thumb's (WT) Mother of Pearl (MOP) and so does Steve Tyree.... My frag never actually came from Tyree's colony.... So I will continue to only call it WT MOP meanwhile others may call it Tyree MOP if it came from Steve Tyree. However, even Tyree's piece originally came from WT just like all the MOP should have....
Haha confused yet? Don't be! The name is for lineage only....

Which pics did this guy lift?  He was using them to sell corals on his site?

It was ebay.... Cornbred mostly only sells on ebay. And he used to use like 3 photos of what was supposed to be the same coral but it was obvious that all the pics were of different peoples colonies of what was likely actually the same named coral he was selling. Kinda strange and this is what happened to Darryl's pic of the red robin that cornbred was selling on ebay....
I question a few vendors like cornbred and sexy corals who sell rainbow chalice and claim all the named frags to be from the same rainbow chalice colony. I mean neither show any prove that their colonies are actually growing or doing well and how easy would it be to cut a 1 eye frag off various rainbow chalice and claim them to be this and that... End of rant ;)

Wow, I didn't realize all the lineage of these corals.

I am with benzzz's posts,(dragon eye) however i would love to get the Radio Active Dragon eye at some point. Since this is my first go, I still need to see if I can keep mine alive and healthy before adding more :)

I think linage is a good way to see where this originated from. Like a family tree I suppose in a way. Giving some of the sps names does make it easier to identify thats for sure.

On a lighter note, I found a frag of Red Montipora Setosa (montipora setosa)  tonight.  :)  And Deez gave me a Bali green slimer last night along with an amazing 20+ head frag of his Orange Crush Acan that he has had since the beginning of his reefing days  !!

The orange crush is awesome - 20+ heads - please take a pic when you can! I have been scouring the internet to get my list together. I don't want to cram my small tank up, but certainly am looking for things that pop. I just found the Green Implosion which looks wicked. I am a spreadsheet guy so that I can keep track of what I would like to get, cost, etc :)
