Striatus Bristletooth Tang

Anybody ever had a striatus bristletooth? Thinking of buying one (i believe it is at least 2 years old), and can't seem to find too much about behaviour on the net. Mostly just discussion on appearance, subspecies, etc. I know, in general, yellow tangs should be the last addition to a tank, as they are notorious for not liking newcomers. Do striatus carry the same reputation?

Yeah i usually check the testimonials on there to get an idea of behavioural traits from people who have them. Guess they're not overly popular as no one has written one for that species.

Looks just like a kole tang but with black eyes instead of yellow. Same family of fish too. Assuming this is just a kole tang with different colouration, there is lots of info out there about kole tangs. Supposedly they have a reputation for being agressive but mine is very tame - he was also added to the tank last though.

I would assume this fish would have a similar temperament to a Kole Tang, I have had one for several years and he isn't too aggressive, maybe the least aggressive compared to other types of tangs that I have owned

I too had one and he was fine, tons of personality. If I could I would have a whole tank with tangs.. I love tangs...

The reason I ask is because I am awaiting delivery of a sailfin, pearlscale butterfly, and bluethroat trigger. Should i: try to arrange to add all 4 at the same time, bristletooth last, or will it not matter? Hard to say for certain I know, just trying decide which way will help keep my tank peaceful.

Jeff; I was told a great way to acclimate fish and it works for me (so far). I turn off my lights and cover the tank to stimulate night, I float the fish as normal, as I said it works for me. I leave the lights off until morning and its like they don't notice that there is a new fish in the tank.
Sounds kinda stupid but it works for me..hope this helps.

Sailfin and bristletooth should be fine together.

A rule I was told about tangs that seems to have some truth to it: don't add another species that has the same body shape or colouring as another tang in your tank.

For example, in my tank I've added a Regal Tang, a Sailfin Tang and Kole Tang. They all get along perfectly well. But if I had added a yellow instead of the Kole, then chances are it would fight with the Sailfin. Or if I had added a Naso instead of the Sailfin, chances are good that it would have fought with the Regal.

You should be fine to add the bristletooth whenever.

I'll try to get a good pic at feeding time. That's when he really colours up. Of course trying to get a good pic is virtually impossible because he loses his mind when food is in the water.

Came home to find my bristletooth covered with what i assume is a parasite, but no idea what kind. Doesn't look like ich. I don't have another tank to isolate him in. Suggestions?

Hard to be positive with a pic but looks like flukes. Do they look like little white flatworms?

FW dip up to 3 min temp and PH!!! Matched.
Can give immediate relief but will need to be repeated every few days to break the life cycle.

But personally I am a fan of praziquantel for worm issues. It will kill the eggs as well as adults. It is a very worm specific medication that is essentially non toxic to non-worms. Even fairly reef safe other than the collateral die off of worms in the system.

I believe your system is pretty much fish only. If so or only some easy corals...I wouldn't hesitate to Prazi it.

My bristletooth is looking much better. He had prob 20 or so what looked like pieces of string, about 1/4" long all over him. Now he has 3. No signs of any on my other fish. I didn't medicate as nowhere in town has prazi, and he seemed to have less each day. Does anyone know what he appears to be recovering from, and should i put any sort of medication in?

Poor guy has "relapsed". Looks terrible. Will be ordering meds, but prob won't be here until wednesday. If he doesn't make it till then, I still need to treat the tank. So far none of my other fish appear to have anything wrong with them, and I want to keep it that way! Since I can't seem to figure out what he has, even after scouring the net trying to find something similar, can someone chime in on what I should get? I'm thinking one of the folliwing:

I do appreciate the offer, but I don't have the space or extra equipment to setup even a small qt. He is an awesome fish, which is why I was hoping someone would be willing to save then keep him. As it stands now, I just have to hope he makes it a few more days and hopefully not too far gone to make meds ineffective.
