Tank From Hell!

So after a drive to st catharines (spending $250 and coming back with nothing), and another $120 to get the tank here, i now have a tank with about a million scratches on it [emoji35]

Couldn't see them until i threw my lights on. Could both the freshwater AND saltwater gods be against me?

If you make it down my way. I can give you some cerium oxide to polish the smaller scratches out. Lots of elbow grease. But it does work

I might try that, but they're all on the inside, just to compound the problem! Guess I'll fill er up and see how bad it looks.

I used this stuff to buff the inside glass of a 120. Not mine now. But a buddy has it running and it made a world of difference.

use the cerium oxide first and give a good rinse. if you have a car waxer or a felt pad with a shaft for a drill it takes away the hours of elbow grease and takes about an hour. all the minor scratches will be gone but any you finger nail catches on will still show. you need special fine grit pads to get rid of those then cerium oxide to buff. that stuff does wonders.

You need to take the tank off the stand and lay it down on the side you're going to buff. YouTube cerium oxide removing scratches. You'll see. Takes time. But it does work.

Filled it up, and it looks a bit better. I think i can live with it. The metal stand it came with doesn't have any cross braces. I believe the bottom glass is 3/4". Should i be concerned with how much weight (gravel, rocks) i put in?

Sorry, i didn't word my question properly. I believe the stand is structurally sound. Other than under the perimeter of tank, there is no support. How much weight can the 3/4" bottom pane bear without any support under it in the middle?

My cube is 30"x30"x24". The stand it came with had no centre bracing. I called marineland the manufacturer of the tank, they said it was not needed. I'm don't remember how thick the bottom is, but it is definitely not more than 3/4".

i would put a sheet of plywood down if its a flat bottom tank- if it has a trim, then i definitely wouldn't worry about it

some manufacturers say only corners need support others say entire bottom some say entire bottom edge. id use whatever companies suggestion that has the best warrenty

( personally i always use 1/2" plywood with 1/2" pink dow insulation board)
