Tank heaters?

Ok so today I've noticed my water was chilly putting my hand into for cleaning, I have an everyday fish tank heater was wondering if I could use this and what I set it too?

120V 60Hz 150W  it's an Aqua Clear 30
I can set it to 19, 22, 24, 27, 30

What should I set it too for my saltwater tank? 29 gallon Biocube and do I stick it inside the tank or into the empty back spot?

If it would fit in the back I would put it there and then you don't have to see it in the DT.  I would set it between 74 - 78F depending on what types of things you want in the tank.  Most reefs are 78F, I think.

Thanks, I've set it at 22 for right now then I'll slowly bump it up and I've got it set in the back

I would keep it around 25 to 26 degrees. Just bump it up over a day or 2. If you can, definitely keep the heater out of the display.

i wouldnt trust that heater, thats the same type i had shatter in my sump and wreck my anemone tank.

i agree, buy a good one. I just baought a titanium finnex heater. Works great.

I just put that one in as a quick fix for now till I can get into town to buy a new one

If you have more than $50 worth of stuff in your tank (like less is even possible  ) it's worth the extra 50 to use a proper temperature controller rather than trust a set of points on a bi-metal spring which will eventually arc closed and make Bouillabaisse (fish stew) out of your pets. IMO

I took it out, just going to wait till Saturday to get a brand new heater properly made for saltwater tanks

your best bet is two lower powered heaters, so if one gets stuck on it wont cook the tank. I run marineland and fluval titanium heaters. love both, they are super acurate. the fluval heater keeps my dank within 0.20 of a degree.
