hey everybody! Time to change tanks.....moving from a 40gal with no sump to a 93gal cube with sump..... Now question time......when I go to change over can I add dry/base rock with no ill affects? Or do I need to cycle the base/dry rock? Or should I add a little at a time.

If you are adding lr you should be ok, it will seed the dried base rock...just mho...but I would cycle it just to be on the safe side.. depending how big the sump is you are doing a pretty big upgrade as far as the water goes..40 gal to 93 gal + water in sump...

If you're adding dry rock then there should be no issues. Your live rock will eventually seed the dry stuff.
However. If you're adding base rock that's Un cured, then you need to be more careful. As there will always be die off that will cause a spike.

Either way. The best way to determine if extra water changes are needed to lower nutrients, is by testing regularly. Which should be performed during any new tank build or move.
Just be ready with extra water for WC's in case your ammonia, or nitrates spike at all.

I guess it also depends on the dry rock. If it is rock that was in a tank before I would acid bath it. If it is that Marco stuff or similar it should be good and I know there are people that just rinse it but I would still let it soak for a few weeks in a drum with powerhead. IMO... this is just what I have done in the past and may be overkill though :)
