I acquired a very healthy yellow tang and his dorsal fins are really tattered, he is super healthy. Will they grow back or is there a supplement that I can feed to help.. nothing wrong with the fish, eats, swims just no dorsal fin..thanks..

Should grow back. I have acquired some pretty beat up fish over time and all have healed up nicely. I just fed properly and gave a good mix diet. I typically feed minced garlic into the tank at feeding time to. Not sure if it directly helps, but I do. From there, all you can do is wait and see.

Could be lateral line erosion, feed lots of veggies.
thanks, I don't think its lateral line erosion, I think he just got beat up..
he has a couple of chunks out of his tail too..
When I make their food I add fresh garlic and their food is soaked/defrosted in garlic water too.. they get nori 3-4 times a week..other than looking like he had the crap beat out of him he is fine and there are no marks on his body...

Yellow tangs are a pretty fiesty variety Heath so I wonder if another member of your tank is getting into it with him ?
As for healing, I agree that it will be fine soon enough with quality foods and as long as the "beatings" (if indeed ocurring) cease

It is not LLE. He was in a tank with a very aggressive fish that went after him and a hippo tang.
The aggressor fish was removed before i aquired them.
His fins never came back even though he was a spoiled little bugger.

I had a blue tang for a year and a half and I put drops of Zoe vitamins on frozen food and nori paper everyday when I had a tang, they need alot of seaweed daily, it took around 3-5 days to get use to the vitamins taste and then the fish love it after, I also bought sea lettuce whenever I could and she still got LLE.. I personally also think stress in small tank or bad tankmates or ick or virus plays a big part of it aswell, it's hard to prevent LLE

I have one, it was a rescue purchase from a now defunct pet store, the dorsal was tattered, the tatters went away but the fin never grew back completely.
