So I need an influx in cash and was seriously thinking about getting out of the big tanks and starting over small again. I had a family member who was going to sponsor the new tank build but instead of the $5k they were going to give now they are only offering $1k. That no where near was going to help at what will be over $7k for the build. In frustration I contemplated just keeping my fish room set up with the 60 gallon frag tank and turn it into a lagoon, then I started thinking about selling everything off and going to a nano cube and/or possibly even out completely for a year or so.

At that point I started an all or nothing selling thread and then there was that moment when you add up the carts for the equipment you have to estimate your asking prices and you realize how much you have spent. My fish room alone, without the food, dosing mixes and all the odds and ends, just the main equipment my cart is at $‭8,881.63‬ before taxes. That is not including the tank or the frags or fish for that matter as well.

For people wondering the equipment I am running. Some Ecotech equipment was purchased used though.

Bashsea
Bashsea SS30 sump - $746.37
Bashsea Twisted 6-30 skimmer - $801.60

Ecotech
2 Radion XR15 Pro G4 - $1,118.00
2 MP40wQD - $978.00
1 MP10wQD - $395.00
1 Vectra M1 - $ 479.00

GHL
Profilux 4 controller Mega set - $1,147.99
2 extra Powerbar - $593.74
2 Doser 2.1 - $1,106.74
1 KH Director - $573.99

NYOS Torq - 2 bases x 2.0 bodies - $641.2‬
NYOS Torq - 2 x 1.75 bodies - ($300)?

I feel your pain.

Frustrating when people let you down like that but don’t panic. I know you had your heart set on the new tank and this is a kick in the balls but it will just give you more time to plan the new build.

I’d say if the new big tank is your ultimate goal then don’t “settle” for something in the mean time, always costs more. Personally I’d look at what equipment you would need for the dream tank and what is just nice to have.

Items like the BashSea stuff don’t have electronics or moving parts so will last forever, those I’d keep.

The Ecotech stuff comes and goes, used values are always the same and usually readily available.

I know you like the GHL stuff, expensive but will the new tank run without it?

The Torq’s are cool but there are cheaper options that will do the same job just not as funky. Only saying this because I’d buy one if you’re selling .....haha

I guess what I’m saying is if you really have your heart set on the new tank then find a way to make it work. Nothing drastic like panicking out of frustration and selling everything.

Hang in there.

Slept on it and will most likely just turn that frag tank into a lagoon. I highly doubt anyone is going to do a group purchase for even half the price of what I have. I had no idea how much I had put towards things so far. Well I knew but never put it all together in one sitting.

The Torq reactors are pretty great but very over rated. I have had a few issues with them, I just haven't had time to post as some of it was recorded.

Tank is a 120 gallon drop off custom build. There are some design additions that I did of which I don't want anyone to copy lol. It will definitely be one of a kind. My tank can be as big as I like. One thing I will share is The tank is directly connected to a drain as well as a separate tank for water changes. No buckets. Although my system is a water changeless system, so most likely will be using the separate tank as a QT; but it is there if I need it

Thank you for the words of encouragement. Time to buckle down and save. Maybe sell a kidney or something.

Tough decision to make. Having gone in and out of multiple aspects of the hobby I can say sometimes a break is needed. You will get penny’s on the dollar for the new gear.

Have been contemplating a move "out east" for a while now. I'd have to shut down here, but man, I'd save a FORTUNE on sae salt if I just dragged it out of the ocean.

I have to second the "pennies on the dollar" for reef stuff. I think we've seen enough full-tank selloffs on here to know that there aren't a lot of biters for anything over say $2K. Best just keep it and re-use it.

Who the heck was going to give you $5K to build a fishtank?? I must assume they thought you were going to use it to grow weed or make meth in it?
