I saw these in development a few years ago.
My only concern with these is cooling. Since there's no built in fan, I'd assume for longevity you would definitely need to used these in a fan cooled hood.

I'd like to see what they actually look like over a tank and see what kind of build quality they are

wow, looks very interesting, wonder what the cost of the bulb is and what is the availability...I'm all for saving hydro but, not at the risk of my corals...

The cost will be I hear double or tripple the cost of normal T5. But if they come with a three year warranty and last 8 years like it says that is not a bad price. So around $90 for the 60". Considering to keep T5 at optimum spectrum you need to replace them from 6 mths to a year depending on how long you run them.

I assume you would have to run them in an air cooled hood or open air because of any heat.

Cool part is they run on phosphor like T5 so they get the same even light distribution.

sounds like a good choice, I have been considering going back to MH... now to find a retailer that is going to carry them...

ive always wondered about these but back then they were lower wattage anduseless for coral. these sure will make t5 fixtures more interesting. im really wondering what a mix of these with one or two t5ho would look like or if all the led ones are better. somebody get experimenting on a tiny tank lol :)

I have been looking into these.

I will say they are going to be a LFS nightmare. No more bulb sales if they are as good as they say and last as long as stated. They are being officially released at RAP convention in the states. A basic retail outline for pricing. (In US $$$)

2' - $49.99
3' - $59.99
4' - $69.99
5' - $79.99

Pricing looks nice, but if you think about it, for the most part it is on par with the current LED units. Minus the fixture parts. If you need 4' bulbs, there is a good chance that you have at least a 4-6 bulb unit. Retro fitting this with those bulbs means $279.96-$419.94 US. Is it a good deal? Yes, considering the limited capabilities of the bulbs, especially if you are only doing one bulb at a time. It is cheaper then most high end LED units. I personally think that there are better options out there. These will have the same limitations that current T5 have with large enclosures and lack of program-ability.

I'm switching to an LED fixture in the spring and currently thinking about the Maxspect Razor.
Have T5HO's now and use ATI lamps. While these bulbs are an interesting option, I like the the versitility
of the LED fixtures out there.

I am really curious to see how the par levels are. They claim them to be the same or more then the big 3( ATI, KZ, Giessman.)

Time will tell like everything in this hobby... As nothing should happen quick I would only be doing 1 bulb at a time regardless of cost, as you should with t5Ho anyways.
