Tying in another smaller tank for a fowlr tank

How hard would this be too do? Is it advisable?

I wouldn't mind having a smaller tank nearby my main tank as a small fowlr tank but would ideally like to tie it into the main system and just run it with a few fish no corals.

Could I easily splice into my existing system and run the drains and returns from there?

Pros and cons please! (it would only be a small system probably under 100 gallons)

Pro - you'd get to keep some cool fish that aren't necessarily reef safe

Con - more bioload on the system.  Could be a pro depending on your nutrient situation (good for someone struggling to add more nutrients and bad for someone trying to get them down)

I think it would be easy enough to tie in as you suggest.

should do the reverse, get a nice 60g cube or something and make that your reef and then turn the 220 into a massive fowlr :D

I agree with the Bigger tank being the FOWLR, You could have some amazing fish in there, Tieing them in isn't a problem but I think you would need a bigger sump and skimmer.

I want the right tank with the right dimensions to come along first.

It has to meet a few criteria. So far nothing has come along really that meets them. But I am confident I will find a tank second hand that will work.

I want to do this side project as cheap as possible. After all this is just a secondary tank on the side for some neat fish is all.

Great idea theyangman! I can not wait until my wifes dog's crate is out of our living room. That spot would fit a 24x24x24 cube beautifully and easily tie into my main. I can not wait for it. Good luck and look forward to seeing progression pics.

Pfft, of coarse she doesnt know lol. I already have a cube to use.

Excited about theyangmans though. He has the spending habbits to get the rare fish we all dream to get.  Only thing he needs to watch is temp differences. Some fish need warmer or colder then his coral tank.
