Big issues with the water in out town after a main break. We are on a boil advisory which goes until the water comes back with 2 clear tests over a 24 hour period. Only it is the municipality doing it, so they probably will do nothing over the weekend AND it is a long weekend at that.

Ironically last night I topped up my RODI ATO and my RO drinking water reseviors. But that will only do me about the 3 days, if I am lucky we will be in the clear at that point. If not...what do I do? I do not want to push contaminated water through my RODI unit, but I will need top up water at least by then. Any one ever go through this? Any suggestions?

I think they will be watched closely by the heath department and they won't let them take the long weekend off when it concerns drinking water.

Worried about whatever is in the water getting into my RODI filters and leaching.

The radio already gave a heads up for the long weekend that we are on a boil advisory. This is chatham-kent P.U.C., they didn't even warn us about a boil advisory until more them 6 hours after the problem. When they did they first posted a reminder on how to pay your bill before warning us about the boil advisory

The water is fine for your tank unless you use the rodi water for drinking. Boil water advisory is just due to possibility of pathogens (ecoli) which would not survive in salt water anyways.

Great bit of information. I do use a T off after the RO for drinking water though.

If using for drinking water then don't chance it. You will have to wait it out. Chance of getting the pathogens in your water are probably 1% or less but municipalities must not take any chances and have to issue a boil water. Drinking water is very regulated after the Walkerton incident.

uv before the filter, the filter should be able to handle anything else, then change the pre filters when its all over... and quit drinking the stuff.. water goes in the aquarium..

any uv would work cus of the low flow, but difficult to find one to take the pressure unless its for a house which are expensive.. i wouldnt want any micro critters crawling around in my filter either..

I agree that the things of concern for human consumption would not be an issue for the tank...however bear in mind that during this period chlorine levels will be well beyond normal levels (boiling will also remove that) and municipal water system can and will use copper compounds to kill biological agents in the system. (There are so many things that are safe for human consumption that would destroy a tank...yet so many people tbink "food safe"= tank safe...).

Your RODI will take care of them too (though never safe to "bet your life" on that) but they will kill off your carbon blocks pretty quickly and one way or another I would think about changing the carbon and sediments after this is over. The membrane can be a harbouring point but otherwise is pretty inert and unlikely to absorb/leach anything.

I'm coming your way this week @TORX
I can bring 10 gallons of salt mix made from RO water - or I can just bring RO water - LMK

Special thank you to @Bonniek, @SamB, and @nathan for your great offers and I may take you up on them if needed. I am really hoping that this is resolved tomorrow as per their update this afternoon. My wife decided pretty last minute that we were going to Marineland today, which was a nice break. I was hoping to find a fix without going to a local water guy as the local guys water is also on the same lines. Even our Tim Hortons can basically only make regular coffee as it is the only machine that they manually can add boiled water too. The rest are all plumbed into the buildings filter system which they are not running right now either.

Oh, @nathan, I have not fragged that leather yet. Maybe tomorrow actually. I did do up several gold mauls though.
