Hey everyone. I was on a "lesser quality" forum a few weeks ago. Not to switch, but to see how things were organized, out of curiosity. I saw a post from a guy in Ontario, and Pm'd him to see if he went by a different name on TFT. Turns out he had never heard of this site. Hopefully he joined. If not, his loss! For those of you who are on multiple sites, why don't we promote this site to others who might not be aware of us...
Just a thought.

IMHO I would do it on the other forums by pm only unless you want to tempt the ban hammer. People can get a big epin on when it comes to their turf. eg one of the selling posts here the member said that he was told to put a higher price on an other site so he wouldn't ruin the "market value" on said site

On reefcentral.com, they encourage people to seek out local forums. That's how I found out about thefragtank.com. I mention thefragtank to others on reefcentral when appropriate. Why would another forum frown on that? I spend hours on both. Torx can attest to the amount of time I am on thefragtank.com. Both are great!

Just thought it would take away from their sites activity

Maybe you're right. I didn't mean to question your question. Lol
But I think the more information we gather and connections we make, the better reefers we can be. So I'm hoping all forums welcome that!
That being said, though, this forum has offered the best connections I have made in this hobby. My thanks to you all!

We all know that our hobby (our addiction) is really a niche and it is a small community out there
That's partly the reason that I like to help out my friends in SW Ontario who don't have the huge selection of coral and fish sellers to choose from
IMO, we can all learn from each other and we can all try to help each other
I'm on a couple of forums because I like to watch the "traffic". I feel that the more information out there and the more resources that we can access, the richer our hobby will be.
We're blessed with smart, passionate people who share this addiction and the forums give us a place to come together

Well, to clarify, I was on a U.S. forum, and I did Pm the guy from Ontario. One thing I noticed in this mistake, was that there were a lot of "loud mouth experts" telling people what they should/should not be doing. I appreciate all the advice from you guys, and want to thank the admin people for their work on this site. It truly is a better site. More like a family, than a collection of a thousand members. It's also nice that the site isn't enslaved to the retail market.

what do you mean by that? like petsand ponds should sponsor the frag fest and donate an item?

we refuse sponsorship from retail businesses... everyone gets the same treatment... I am not opposed to putting up banners for things like frag fest and other items of interest to the community but when we are asked to put up banners for a specific seller the answer is always no. Spread the word if you guys wish to.. we have run kijiji ads in the past for all of ontario and that has brought in people as well... not sure of the last time we did that though.

WE are more likely to ban you here if you are bossy and a jerk than not filling out your tank details in your signature..... or refusing to use the new classifed addon that the administration installed:)

No I'm saying those places like pets and ponds or reef supplies extra should be putting up a link to our site. We bring them enough people and we help other learn about higher end must have products

Some might think it's underhanded, but why not promote this site to other reefers. I think retailers should be telling customers about TFT. Then they can spend less time on answering questions, and more time selling quality product and service. The LFS still has an important place in reefing. They are the face to face. "I can smell a lie like a fart in a car" when I'm face to face. I may not let on that I know, but I lose a lot of respect for the person. On line it's harder to tell if someone is yanking your chain. Which is why we are kept honest by others chipping in on the threads.

Now keep in mind I am not going back to that "lower quality" forum. After signing up my e-mail was flooded everyday with garbage e-mails. But I did put the word out to another reefer in Ontario. You should too.

Bit of a rant. Sorry. This site is the best.

Well said Neo, I do not have much more to add to that. Summed it up very well. It is the image that Rick had when he started this site so many years ago and we plan on keeping that mindset for years to come. We have put a lot of our own time and money into this site to watch it grow to where it is now. I love watching it grow more each day, one member at a time. I am proud to be part of this team.

Promote away... But if you get the ban hammer... We will deny everything... Think of the double 00 or mission impossible ;)

A couple retailers can't get passed the fact that we trade and sell corals amongst ourselves. Thinking that by us doing so we are stealing sales from them blah blah blah. We have put feelers out for posting a flyer in the local stores but reception was not hot so I am not sure if it ever happened. When I started here I was a lot more ambitious than I am now about growing the site. Feel free to step up, maybe we should hold auditions for a fragtank marketer position.
