people will find the site. Don't worry about it. For every one person that posts there are probably 20 that lurk. Lurking is okay. But I think the reason this site works is the laid back non judgemental approach by the active participants. No one is trying to criticizes others or offend. There is freedom of speech and a fun whimsical welcoming atmosphere. That is what makes the site great and when you meet the people in person, they have been exceptional.

We are here because we share a passion that most don't get or even understand. It's great to have others like us that get us. Even when family and friends smile and shake their head at us.

I know what you mean about friends and family shaking their heads. I specialize in water treatment, and I get that from the people I sub-contract to. Usually with the "Your into fish? Why?"

I think the success of the frag tank is due to our moderators hard work (thank you !) and our friendly environment where members don't feel the need to insist that they are right, we make suggestions and offer assistance where we can. A very big difference. I think the fact that we do share, buy and sell our extras or equipment we're no longer using also gives us the opportunity to meet the "faceless" forum members which adds to the family like atmosphere. It works ! we're the proof

fragtank is based on community helping each other.

Some retailers don't like that. They rely on newbs wrecking stuff and failing so that they can return again and again to buy this, or that, or a replacement. Like the store that sold a woman a huge $$$ zoa rock, and a couple of chocolate starfish. 99% of us would have told her they are not compatible.

So you inevitably get the place like AP that sells banhammers. Give the guy enough cash and you can do whatever you want. We don't block, ban or charge any stores, local or otherwise, they chose to either post here or not...draw your own conclusions from that.

totally agree with the comments made, plus, if someone is new to the hobby/site and they see that a store is maybe giving out incorrect info, what is that going to do to the new person.. I think that they would get discouraged very quickly and give up on the hobby..I know when I started I was given a ton of wrong info from a store...

Well said Neo, I do not have much more to add to that. Summed it up very well. It is the image that Rick had when he started this site so many years ago and we plan on keeping that mindset for years to come. We have put a lot of our own time and money into this site to watch it grow to where it is now. I love watching it grow more each day, one member at a time. I am proud to be part of this team.
