Uv Glass For Mh

I've got a 400 DE MH Pendant. The glass needs to be replaced. I found out today that as I tried to order the glass from a local supplier that there are no ovens in Northern Ontario and since there are none that they have to order it from Toronto, That's fine but they say Tempered glass isn't UV protected, So what do I need? It's for a DE MH Pendant Approx 14 x 10, how thick should the glass be? and UV? Tempered? something else?

I ran my 250 watt MH pendants for 15 years with no glass. I originally tried to find glass that fit them but gave up. Just raise them up a little and very carefully accumulate corals slowly. Also don't put your arm under it for to long. Lol

If I added a new coral after my corals were adjusted I raised the lights back up a few inches. For really sensitive corals I put a normal piece of glass on the tank for a week or so.

I know single ended can be run without glass because the outer casing of the lamp is UV protected but I thought double ended had to have the UV glass. Are the OP talking about DE fixtures?

Yes that's right DE, It'll kill the fish, I thought.

I had mogal type so one end not double ended.

It's ok, I know you have to have the glass in place or else I'll be having a Fish Fry

I think some newer DE bulbs are UV protected, says UV-P on the bulb.

if the bulb has an outer second glass bulb as a shield you are safe if just a single layer of glass between you and the filament you need glass de need that protective glass

I looked off and on for years and gave up. They want you to buy a new reflector instead of just the glass. Have you checked at a local glass shop? They might have some UV glass and be able to cut you one.

i think its called borosilicate glass or something along those lines not 100% on spelling but it stops the uv-b radiation

From what I've been told is you can't cut Tempered glass, I'd be better off buying a new Pendant.

Is this the one you're talking about Jim? I bought this from you a couple of years ago when you were in Ingersoll. I've never used it, couldn't get it to clip on well to my little corner tank !
