im looking into algae scrubbers a lot lately, and it seems there are some decent, but ugly DIY plans around

Has anyone here ever used a scrubber, and even better, has anyone actually made one? I know there are some DIY kings around. I don't have time to build one from scratch while inventing the layout, so I could use a good spoon feeding. I know turbo makes an amazing one, but it's $400 US plus shipping plus plus. I could find some time to save that $$$$$$

They do so much it's insane. They suck out a lot of nitrates and phosphates that's for sure. After a while your lr will condition and you will slowly dial it down or turn it off a day here or there just so nitrates will register lol. I have a thread in the diy section of one I built it works great and sits on the rim of my sump with no pump needed since my drain exits into the scrubber. Personally the waterfall style are a pain for maintenance as the splash guard to protect your light will need to be cleaned daily that's why I used a sluice run style.

I'd like to add one to my sump as well. There are people in the Niagara area who build the waterfall type I believe, anyone from the Niagara got the name? They're on the Niagara facebook group.

In Hamilton, downtown, corner of Main and Walnut. P&A plastics is a good and local. Good luck with the build. Once you make your first project you will be building all kinds of things. It really is pretty easy.
