Has anyone used the pump timers before i.e. Natural Wave Pump Timer  avaiable at mops. Was thinking about picking one up or a wavemaker but being as they are about 3x the price as one of these was thinking what the hell and what is the catch...
I currently have Koralia Evo powerheads

you'll probably still have problems with powerheads starting in reverse.

evo's have a bumper in the front grill to prevent reverse starts.

problem is the plastic its made of doesnt wear well and it break off thereby allowing the unit to start up in reverse once its broken.

Hydor's customer care will replace the front grill but many users have complained that they are on their third + front grill and the warranty is now beyond the one year point.

i just bought two brand new evo 1050s that i am considering unloading due to the complaints i have hear. Problem is vortechs are 4x as much... and i need two

agreed loves those vortech but for the price. A little slow on pulling the trigger for that.

So just to be sure is the complaints and comments about the Hydor Evo's or are we talking about the wavemaker timers.

I was running the mp10 on my biocube and the noise was so annoying. The settings were awesome but I can't stress how annoying the noise was?

I am still a big proponent of making a closed loop system if you don't have a lot of cake to spend on something like a couple tunze powerheads with the controller.

nothing wrong with the evos on their own

nothing wrong with the wave maker on its own

combine both - and you MAY or MAY NOT have problems. Remember the people who have issues are more likely to post their reviews online than others so it may work OK for you.

I think there is a lot of hype over "random flow" and their benefits for corals. I think as long as you have lots of flow to keep "Things" suspended in the water column(for the corals to "grab" and eat).

Try the pumps without the timer for the time being. If you corals arent thriving but everything else is in check (Water quality/temp/lighting) then you may wanna try the timer.
