Well didn't think it could happen. My return hose somehow came off my return pump. Only lost 20 gallons but every thing was soaked.
Got lucky must have just happened before I got home.

what do people use to secure the return hose?

You can get plastic hose clamps as pictured below. I use zipties to secure hoses on reactors, but I have a ziptie gun that gets them good and tight before cutting the excess off flush. I know my dollar store sells the hose clamps. I personally do not have a hose connected to my return pump, screw on fittings with PVC plumbing.

This is the reason I hard plumb my return, use an adapter to go from threaded to slip fit and then hard pvc or flex pvc from there on. If your return only has barbed fittings then I would look at getting a new return, imagine the cost if your sump had been drained, you could have a burnt out skimmer and heater and depending on how long you were away before noticing, a very cold display tank.

[QUOTix ="unibob, post: 177071, member: 133"]Zip tie. Heat tubing/hose up a bit so the tie wrap makes a bit of a groove.

"Oh just a little maintenance accident i had to clean up"

Flex spa is the way to go these days, It's readily available, fairly cheap, bendable, Forget those elbows they just slow the flow.
