What Are Your Thoughts?

Now as some may know ive been battling all sorts of algae for a bit now. With that happening and sucking up all the nutrients basically acting like a ULNS, would this cause burning tip of my acros with a alk of 8.4?? Ive been noticing a few of my acros getting burnt tips, just trying to figure out what could be causing this... that or maybe when i was treating them all they were sitting on the bottom of the tank for a month and half-2months, and i never acclimated them back to higher lighting. Just glued or epoxied them all back up,Could that maybe cause that? Thanks

I'd say it's a combination of things with the alk. I found in my own system that with the ULNS that my sps were all more sensitive to other changes. I'm not saying you can't run a ULNS at higher alks, but I feel the sps are just stressed at higher than 8.0 and become more sensitive to other changes in the tank. Like in your case the light and all the other things you've been doing to battle the issues you've had.

Yeah its only a cpl pieces its affecting.. ill keep and eye on them. Hopefully theyre just adjusting or something minor lol.

Stop dosing alk for a bit and let it drop a bit into the mid 7's

Should i worry about balancing out the cal? Or just keep it at 420?

Try to. But I could never get my ca below 410-430 even with my alk at 7.6

420 and around 8 dkh is perfect IMO (those are the parameters I strive for anyway). Are you running a ULNS (i.e. carbon dosing)? I would not expect to see burnt tips at 8.4 dkh even if carbon dosing... what kind of treatment were you doing, dips? If depleted nutrients were the cause, they would like just get paler. My guess would be the lighting.

Yeah i was dipping every 5 days for almost 2 months to kill AEFW. And no im not trying to run ULNS just all the bryopsis and cyano are absorbing everything basically making my tank a ULNS. Yeah i was dipping every 5 days for almost 2 months to kill AEFW. And no im not trying to run ULNS just all the bryopsis and cyano are absorbing everything basically making my tank a ULNS. Ive always tried for 8.4 and 420 because thats apparently one of the balanced levels where corals absorb the most.

Those parameters are pretty solid IMO, I'd be happy with that My guess would be the dips + the light. Hopefully you win the battle with the AEFW... bastards.

As far as i know the battle has been one. Only time will tell i suppose. Yeah could be light because they were under old bulbs for a while and then after the dips or during i cant remember all the bulbs were slowly changed out.
