the skimmer is not running. it won't run right with the flow being so fast in the returns. The flow back is causing bubbles but before the baffles. The return is in the middle. It must be sucking up bubbles tgat my baffle isn't processing.

But why then would the tank have bubbles when I turn it on in that 2 minutes before the return starts coming back?

Shouldnt matter how fast the water is running threw the sump for the skimmer to work, the only thing that should effect the way the skimmer works is the height of the water in the slimmer section

Your return has to be after the baffles, if not, it is not doing anything for the bubbles.

Now I've got one fish freaking out. Jump outta the tank. Luckily I was here and put him back in.I don't know if I hit a mini cycle or if its the bubbles. He will probably die. I turned everything off just in case it is the bubbles.

I can't see it being the bubbles, unless 90% of your tank was full of bubbles not allowing the fish to swim or anything.

its not the bubbles.. I've had my pump suck air and fill my tank with bubbles a few times when I forgot to fill my ATO.. I think the fish liked the bubbles.. another thing to throw out there is that background you made in the new tank.. what exactly is it made with, and could it be leeching chemicals into the water?

I think the fish liked the bubbles.. another thing to throw out there is that background you made in the new tank.. what exactly is it made with, and could it be leeching chemicals into the water?

+1 on that , I would still suggest it was to much to fast the background could be adding more to the problem.

I should have given him to you. didn't think he would go down that fast and didn't get your message till now which pisses me off extremely.

I moved my returns both to the left side of the tank. it has helped a bit. my pump before was never this strong so I never had issues with the bubbles. Royal Aquariums recommended some filter socks so I Will look into that. for now the bubbles seem a little better. just to get me to tomorrow.

I looked over the thread and I even posted in between your responses. Why was I not notified about them or I couldn't see the when I replied? Today is just not my day. And I can't do anything about anything tonight.

over 10years doing this and I still am a rookie. I really need some luck with this tank. nothing but bad luck so far. I swear if I loose all the fish, somone is gonna get a sweet deal on a big tank.

If it is the background there is nothing I can do about it. I made it to the same specs as others did on reefcentral. Even using the same products and it was stored in Rock water while was setting up. it is eggcrate, pond foam, lace rock, and bob smith epoxy with Caribbean sea sand. I siliconed it in the tank and it dried for almost 2 weeks with fans in the tank as well. if it is the background then I don't know what to do.

The Bubbles are Gone, The Bubbles are gone. 

Thank You to Dan at RA for the suggestion of the filter socks. Go figure eh. They already fixed this problem. Thanks To Gary at Sealife for having some. I also Bought the Vertech In 180 skimmer. Merry Christmas to Me.

On a sad note, my water tested positive for ammonia which is unexpected. I got a shot of Ammonia detox (thx Sealife) and some Seachem Stabilizer. Thought I was doing ok. Best we can figure out is that I disturbed The deep sand bed in my fuge.

My Hippo Is not coming out to eat tonight which is very unusual. I'll give him tonight and if he doesn't get better I will post him up. He needs to go to at least a 90g tank. If you promise to give me visitations then he doesn't have to come back.  He and the Sailfin were buddies. He has been fine all this time till I gave him a bigger tank. Talk about a sincere mistake.

Glad to hear you got the new vertex skimmer, you should notice a big difference
