As some may have seen I had a G5 to G6 Blue upgrade kit for sale. It did not sell so I just did the upgrade.

The upgrade could not have been simpler. Just a few screws and then a calibration in Mobius and all is done. Took no more then 15 minutes, and I am a few pops in tonight.

Start updating your lights firmware. There are several warnings to do this before you get started. Next remove the 4 screws for the cover. Then remove the 6 from the lens to remove the lens from the LED board. There are 2 screws holding a small power board to the LED board that need to be removed as well. From there just put the old board aside and reverse what you did with the new board. They include a new optic lens cover as well as new screws and all the Torx bit tools needed to do the project. Such a simple upgrade. If anyone hears of someone needing a replacement LED board for a XR15 G5 Blue, I got them covered :)

I didn't dare take before and after photos of my tank. A month or so ago I lost all my livestock, most likely my own fault and dosing too much to get rid of a major cyanobacteria and algae break out. I am currently rebooting the entire set up and making a themed tank.

Great write up, do you have any green rf chips by any chance?
Honestly the install is so easy it hardly needs a write up.

I do not have any chips anymore. On a side note, the black chips also run ESL, so it does not matter if it is the black or green chip, provided Mobius was not already installed on the black chip.

Ya, it's a new mp40 and ecotech no longer allows the downgrade, the only way is to install the green chip

The green chip will not work either. The MP40 mother board is using Mobius, if you install a ESL chip then it still will not work. They do still allow the downgrade. Remove the device from the tank in Mobius, then go to add it. Tap and hold will bring up options to identify, upgrade and downgrade.

Well I learned something new. Any VorTech/Vectra units built after 12/2/21 are only Mobius compatible. They are planning on releasing a firmware that will allow the downgrade capability for these units in the future, currently they do not have an ETA and are still in testing. I find that weird as the old ones worked just fine. Case of why fix something that isnt broken...

I have an old Mobius installed MP40 driver you can have. If you install your Mobius RF module in it, then you should be able to downgrade
